I bought some organic bananas about 10 days ago. Second day I had them I saw fruit flies swarming all over the kitchen cabinet. I threw them out. I still have them in the kitchen. I've put out flie traps, cleaned everything, made sure no dishes left in sink with food etc. I can't get rid of those little pests!
Three days ago I bought a pineapple. It had a couple of flies swarming around it in the bin at kroger. I immediately put it in a plastic bag, brought it home and sliced it and put it in the fridge.
I would estimate about 100 little fruit flies were in my kitchen. I only saw three or four this morning so I'm gaining ground. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy produce from Kroger again.
Bugs will always get into the food supply chain, it's not really a Kroger problem as much as it is you being very unlucky. We once had several boxes of bananas come in with dozens of spiders and hundreds of spider eggs in them.

You're probably right. Just venting - you know - overworked, underpaid, now fruit flies LOL!
Those things are nasty as hell. They fly in your face, up your nose etc.
My biology class need them once because we were studying genes and what was passed on to the offspring. The flies we had had a bit of red and blue. Each student got a few flies and we bred those damned things. We had to say what ratio per breeding, were red fruit flies an what ratio were blue fruit flies (1/20 were red 19/20 were blue etc.) them our teacher told us to release them outside his window. Those damn things flew right back in and buzzed around for several days.
apple cider vinegar in a cup and squirt in some lemon dish soap in. Fruit flies will fly right in and won't fly out.
Thanks, good idea. They are on the counter as well so hopefully that will help.
I did put the garbage outside in the garage, wow! Had a swarm of them when I went to take the garbage outside to the curb the other day. I had to leave the garage door open for a few hours. We aren't allowed to put garbage out until 7 am on garbage day. I may find a place to hide it on the side of the house.
Or maybe I will keep the fruit outside!!!

'Organic' produce has got to be one of the biggest, goofiest scams of all time: you're paying as much as three times more for food that has not been treated to keep bugs and other contagion away. We hear customers bitch all the time about this, and I have to struggle to keep from laughing right at them!

I know, right? They're like a milder version of some anti-vaccine nutloaf dying from pertussis and wondering where it all went wrong.

My daughter has fibrymyalgia and lost a job due to trips to the ER. She has completly switched to organic, no gmo, no preservatives, no genetically altered food, etc. Wahla!!! She has never felt better!! I agree that some organic food is a lie and a rip off though. You have to do your research. The bananas aren't that much more and they have a longer shelf life than regular bananas.
Not sure if you've experienced fruit flies since last year, but you might want to consider checking out www.auntfanniesco.com. Aunt Fannie's FlyPunch! safely manages fruit flies. It's non-toxic, yet made of industrial strength ingredients and attractants. It's 544% more effective than other competitors (that little apple device, for instance). Safe near people and food, effective and affordable. We keep FlyPunch! near our fruit bowl, as we buy organic (which means less pesticides to kill those fruit flies before bringing them home.)
