I'm new as a cashier and I had a few customers pay with personal checks today. I know I need to write their DL number and DOB, but I forgot what else I need to write on the check to the right in the shape of a "t" with my initials. I have been shown already once but I don't want to sound dumb asking again.
Uh, unless the register asks for 2nd ID, then nothing needs to be done here. They give you the check and you press the check button twice (unless they want cash back) and place the check in the printer to either frank it, or print then frank it. I think I've seen it ask for DL maybe 50 times. And I've been a cashier for 2.5 years.

Any help would be great, Thanks!
You need to go ahead and ask someone in your store cuz nobody here knows what policy would be in your specific division.
you don't say what division you are but in ATL division we write the license, date of birth and expiration date just to be doubly safe.
we're supposed to be able to "trust the system" and let it decide if we need ID or not but we train new cashiers to write down the info on the check. we do this because checks can be lost or stolen and used so make sure the check matches the person.
make sure it's not a starter check. if you have any questions or if it's a business check as your supervisor. in our store business checks need management OK.
if the system needs ID, the register will say "2nd ID needed" you hit clear, type in the ID number, enter and then the # that goes with the state, passport, or military id
it'll usually ask for 2nd ID if they haven't written checks before or not recently. rules of cashback on new checks may vary but the register will print out a slip and your supervisors may be able to read the coded jibberish.
the basics are no cash back on a first check, only a certain number of checks in a certain number of days. people who write lots of checks are trusted more than noobies.
Thanks, for all of the advice. Sorry for the late post just been busy.
I ended up asking a fellow associate and the policy here (Southwest Division) is to write the DOB and DL #. Phone is optional, but some customers write it in themselves anyway. The "t" I mention is where we have to write PNP and then our initials.
