I work in customer service and when a cashier or customer forgets to scan the paper coupon from the flyer, they send them to me and all I can do is call KCRC or 1800 Krogers and stay on hold for 15 minutes as my line backs up.
I wish we could actually do something with fuel points in the store, because I hate being on hold and depending on how bad a mood the customer is in, I can't do anything while on hold with them.
Even calling the store only number (which doesn't even work on the customer service phone, so I have to use mine) doesn't speed it up at all.
Can't you just do a 6809 refund and a 999901 charge for the same price with the coupon to give them the fuel points?
Probably not the best idea because the tax may not be set up the same and you may end up with a cash discrepancy, especially if it was a large order. Better idea, and what we do, is refund on 999901 the dollar amount of however many fuel points they got in the order (like 150 points = 150 dollars entered) then cash it out. Then ring up the same dollar amount on 999901 with their plus card and cash that out. But don't scan the coupon, otherwise they'll be getting too many points.
my coworkers just pointed out that grocery keyrings that are as big as these orders would get my ass in major trouble, because people are spending well over 100 bucks

Gee being $150 short on your drawer might make your FES raise an eyebrow. Maybe you should just send them to guest care and give those people a task to do.
I work at the customer service desk at my store, and we've been told that it is the customer's responsibility to get the 2x fuel points, and if they don't get them, the customer is to call the 1-800 number and do it themselves. If they get pissy, the front end manager MAY do it for them depending on what the Que-vision situation is at the moment. The phone system at my store is so antiquated that I can't make a long distance phone call at the desk. A manager has to make the call from the cash office; which has the only long distance capable phone on the front end. So if the front end supervisors have to take the time to make the phone calls, its not happening.

lol I am at customer service! The cashiers are sending them to me.
Not sure what the fuss is about but at my store if they forget to scan the flyer, we can just scan their receipt, then scan the flyer, and it'll apply the double fuel points. It takes our customer service people literally like 30 seconds to do away with.
I've noticed plenty of stores are still in some archaic type of operation. Then again, it IS Kroger after all.

Yeah we don't have any sort of barcode system with our receipts. Sounds like many other divisions are in the same boat. I think it would simplify returns and coupons and fuel point issues if we did have something like that.
I work at Fred Meyer. About a year ago they issued bar codes to add fuel points. It's odd that we'd have that capability but Kroger doesn't.
It's not a "capability", it's a choice. Your division chose to give employees to do that in-store; others choose not to.
Imho, your division made the right choice, but as usual my division staff is filled with people who have no working knowledge of the stores they control.
Now, I can make a barcode to add fuel points to a card without a purchase, and I have in the past, but it was difficult to do and I had to redo it the first day of every month.
