Sometimes when we have the "buy X, get $Y off" promotions, I teach my guys "15, sign on" to look at the order in progress to point out how many +> items are there. Easier than scrolling through the item screen. Doesn't stop the customer from responding "But this on had a sticker under it!"

Good tip but takes too long for a larger order and leaves a chance to miscount. Better to suspend the order; the receipt tallies the items just like the final receipt would.
