transfering stores and districts
Permalink

I've been thinking of transferring from the store i currently work in  the Dayton area to a store in Cincinnati area or even Kentucky. I've been trying to find the policy on transferring. i want to stay in the same department when i transfer. Ive been told a number of things and not sure what to believe. one girl i worked with said that she lost everything when she transferred to our store and couldn't get back any of her seniority or anything and another person i know that's been with the company a very long time transferred to a store near by and i was told she took a pay cut when she transferred. a lot of people are saying its not worth it i just would like to know exactly what I'm looking at if i transfer stores and districts and if its worth the time and money. I've been with this company for almost two years now. can anyone help me?

If you transfer within your division/contract you should keep your seniority and benefits, tho your pay may change depending on the store you move to.

However, move divisions, and all bets are off. Your new division might accept your seniority but probably not. If they do, your pay will be commensurate with your seniority, but that could be higher or lower. If your seniority doesn't transfer, you might get experience pay, but that's it.

 HAHA, i know right!

but on a more serious note: Kroger must be your first job, and that's okay, but experience pay is when you already have time in a particular job classification (EX: Kroger Deli clerk) and you get hired at another place based on that experience and do the same job (EX: Walmart Deli Clerk) If you have 2 years under your belt you should get ~1years worth of a raise from them. ~$0.10-0.25 depending how you play it up and their pay rates.

Call the store you're looking to move to and ask what local they are under. If it's a different contract/local you're going to lose everything. If it's the same then you should stay the same.

It isn't a certainty that she'll lose everything but it is a possibility, depending on the contract.

If you're in the same district I think you keep it. I know someone who moved from Piqua to Springfield and they kept their seniority.

But different districts, i'm not sure about that.

That's one of the stupid things about working under a union.  It's all one company.  I think you should be able to go to any store in the country and keep your seniority and your same relative rate of pay.

Even moving districts, you'll keep everything, unless your contract is extra stupid.

It's when you move to a new division, and thus a new union local, where you'll have issues.
