If it's a different dept. then its allowed. If it's the same dept. then it's technically *allowed* but expect all hell to break loose. They tried that here and it didn't matter, the lady quit within 2 weeks. But most of the store was pissed off at the favoritism, me included.

Under my contract it is absolutely not allowed. I don't even think it's a union thing. It's Kroger policy not to have one family member to have an authoritative position over another. Department heads can have family members working in other departments, but store managers can't have any family members working anywhere in the store. Several years ago we got a new store manager. His wife happened to work at our store. She had to transfer to another store.
