Company?

Do your stores always freak our when you get in store 'company'?  We had the Division VP of Operations walk our sitter the other day. Our unit manager was off. The 2 co's were flipping out. I thought that they were going to roll out the red carpet for them.

Do you think that the coordinators   and district managers deserve special treatment?

I actually like my coordinator and district manager, and yea I think they should get special treatment. But here's what they actually hate. They hate whenever you obviously treat them better than customers. They believe that customers come before them. That's why they got where they are.

Yes, the store always freaks out when VIPs are due. Someone in mgmt will always try to make the place look or work better than it normally does, and the stress rolls downhill and permeates everyone in the store. It's sort of like when you're having the in-laws over for dinner, minus the part where everyone gets really drunk and says things they'll regret.

Yea. Usually when 'VIPs' come, the managers go into c0cksucking mode. Hell one time a DM said it was chilly in the store (by the meat department, no less) and the co-managers sprinted to get her a jacket. Yea, next time that coordinating position comes up, you'll definitely be 'in', as if there aren't another thousand employees who try to impress the DM every chance they get. It's just common human behavior. Someone with power over you, power over your boss, and power over your boss's boss is pretty important.

They were supposed to come to our store today.  Don't know if they showed up or not.  I think they ought to just pop in unannounced and see what it's really like.  But then again, maybe they announce when they are coming to get all us lazy employees that are doing two peoples jobs to jump and get into action and actually do three peoples jobs for a change!

Yes they freak out.  They'll add hours just to prepare the store for the visit, do extra cleaning and stocking.  It's BS.  We had a visitor earlier this year and all the manager cared about is there were still some go backs that hadn't been done yet by the time they came for their walk through.  We had busted our ass but it was still a failure to her.  It's nonsensical, she'll tolerate mountains of go backs when we're just dealing with real customers.  One basket left?  Not acceptable.

If freaking out during VP visitors was a sport, our store would be the UNFEFEATED world champions. Not only do our store managers and co-managers get all "freaky deaky" and freak the **** out, as you all know, **** runs down hill and hits everything and everyone in its path. "EVEN go as far to hit other things." Soon everyone is running and freaking out like it's the end of the world. A co worker eve said "xxx Vice President is coming!" I VERY CALMLY stated "So? That don't bother me any. As long as my dept is up where it should
Be I'm fine." Word got back to managemt. Oh, HELL NO! I was "bitched" at for not caring (which was true, I don't give a **** if they come or not, half the time they ignore my dept all together. I'm lucky if I even see them passing).
Anyways, so now I put on my "freak out" face when I hear they are coming. It's a hassle IMO.

The vps bleed red just like us, breathe the same air as us, and their **** stinks just like ours. Why freak out when it does NOTHING to change the outcome???

Let me phase this different.  Should our customers be treated any different when they come to shop?  I say no.  Our stores should always look the same, well stocked/helpful employees.  Good store management shouldn't have to scramble around when a "big wig" comes in.

I agree hours, management, and attitude should always be truthfully represented during a visit from upper management... but when else would the normal manager be able to kiss that much ass?

I'd like to see upper management in the trenches with us everyday for at least a month. Lets see how their precious ELMS and Qvision hold up under that sort of pressure. I also wonder who would be the first to get shot.

They'd STILL find a way to blame us, for THEIR stupidity. And yes, I agree. The stores should be up and presentable at ALL times. If they were then acting all "OMG!! The big guys are coming!!! We have to get this store presentable!!! Hurry hurry!!" *goes all crazy like a pansy ass*

and yet, THEY (at least a majority of the managers) take credit for all the hard work WE did!!!! Pisses me off!!

I got bitched at a few years ago when a VP came to the store when I was in frozen.  She would talk to everyone though we had work to do. We were just supposed to drop everything and talk, yet I didn't.  The store manager introduced her to me, I turned around said hello then went back to stocking.  Can't leave frozen stock just sitting there.  But when it's a VP of something we are I guess?

We had the VP come to our store and he was heading my way (diary) just as i started my shift. Several other employees gave me a heads up they were in the store. Right before they get to where i was at i finished what i had on my dolly and went back to get more stuff to put out. If i dont have to talk to them i wont!
