So, I've been the newest courtesy clerk for over a month, until now. This girl, who was also a courtesy clerk, quit or got fired or whatever and our store was quick to hire another courtesy clerk even though on most days we are over scheduled. During his training hours last week, he was extremely slow; I mean, he single-handedly started a back-up and managers/supervisors had to bail him out. This week was his first scheduled week; I suppose he survived yesterday, albeit with some slight things that kind of pissed me off. For instance, he literally spent like five minutes out on the lot (while it's very hot, our FEM stresses 30 minutes; some of the more lenient supervisors say 15). Anyways, he was scheduled to close today and while I was working the supervisor got a call and it was him. He (the supervisor) sounded kind of mad and I heard him say that he (the courtesy clerk) needs to call earlier so he can find a replacement. I know this doesn't bode well for the new guy since this was one of our more...easily aggravated supervisors. I know I should probably show more sympathy, but I don't really want my hours cut if a guy like this is going to be taking them. It's pretty easy to get on the FEMs good side, but she doesn't tolerate lazy workers and I just don't know about this guy...
Just cover your end. Let him deal with his own. It's ok to help once in a while but don't bail him out. Tell him to read his employee manual and keep it with him.
You think you've seen slow? You don't KNOW slow...We've got a "new" guy in produce...He asks, "Do we have any more cherries?" "Yes". "Where are they?" "In the back. Here I'll show you", says one employee. An hour later...manager says, "I need you to put out more cherries". He says, "Where are the cherries again?" He is shown once again. He has only worked an hour and a half, since his shift started. Takes a break. Does not put out any cherries. Asks another employee, "Do you guys need any cherries out there?" "Uh, yeah..." Loads up one box of cherries. I say when I finally see him, "I think you need at least 10 more boxes to fill the table"..."Do we have any more in the back? I didn't see any."...Mind you, this whole time, we are sitting on a FULL PALLET of them! Ugh!!!

Is THIS the future of America???
He either has some learning disablity or he's just trying to get fired. Thats what ya get with minimum wage.
Managers here have wanted to can people on probation and then let them go past probation and then say "I can't do anything about it now"
OP, if he's calling in sick I'd say its a good bet that he will simply stop showing up.
