95 degrees today and the poor Front End CC's...

are scheduled for a single person for an hour every hour for the entire day.

I went shopping today at the Kroger where I work and out of curiosity stopped and peeked at the 'lot schedule.

One courtesy clerk scheduled for both sides of the parking lot for one hour the entire day.

The. Entire. Day.

So no matter how busy we get today, we poor courtesy clerks are still screwed. Either one side has to be focused on and the other only taken care of as needed or vice versa.

And it's 95 degrees today.

Oh I also checked how many water bottles we had left in our cooler. Four. This was at 2 p.m.

This is one of many reasons why Front End sucks and why I don't care how bad it gets, if it's that damn hot and they are putting us out for an hour -- some of them repeating (i.e. 1 - 2 p.m. then 3 - 4 p.m.) I am going to go get ice and water first.

I suppose it's based on the stupid e-schedule and how many people were scheduled to work today. All I know is that I don't, and I haven't been called in either.

I'm sure our CC's working today can handle it -- everyone on that list has done it before -- but still, only one person for an hour at a time the entire day? And in 95 degree weather with god knows what humidity.

I have heard there may be an opening for a dishwasher over in deli. I think tomorrow I'm going to ask about it. Front end sucks.

I would refill the water cooler with bottles. And if asked what you are doing say "refilling te bottles. No one done it yet"

Well I was under the impression our FESes were supposed to be the ones ensuring that we have water to go out on 'lot, but in recent weeks we have basically fended for ourselves. That's why when I am scheduled to work now I try to come in a little early because I *know* as a courtesy clerk my ass will be out there at some point. For instance, tomorrow. And if I'm down for an hour by myself tomorrow, I am taking a break when I feel I need one. Kroger is not worth having heat exhaustion or heat stroke for. I already have a right index finger that has partial usage due to crushing it in the shopping carts...whenever the hell it happened. Think I damaged some nerves on it or something. My point is, I don't care how bad things are, if it's hot, it's hot. And if I am out there for an hour and feel like resting for five minutes when I've been out there for 25, 35 minutes, I'm going to do it, FES be damned. I do my job and do it well. We deserve the water and if that means we have to go for it ourselves so be it.

lol, the FE manager isn't going outside to get carts.  They don't depend on the water being there.

You have to take the initiative and make sure you are hydrated.  Fill water and ice when you get there.  The FeM might call EMS if you pass out from heat stroke.  That's how we roll at kroger.  Fix it after it is too late.

It's just as hot or hotter working in the grocery back room. Grocery clerks aren't provided with free water. I wish all courtesy clerks would quit or stop complaining. Of course most of the courtesy clerks at my store couldn't make it in any other job.

some do but only those who care.  our cooler here in atlanta only had one empty bottle in it.  because of scheduling mishaps some people are on the lot multiple hours continuously.

Call EMS? Only to ensure that you have a pulse and that you are capable of getting your ass back up and back to work.
I have always said and always will say that if one of their employees died -- preferably off-duty -- that Kroger would demand to see a copy of the death certificate or else they would fire / dock that person for not showing up for work. Kroger just doesn't care, man. They just don't care.

We had one CC out on lot duty four times today. It wasn't 95, more like 80 or so, but still. Our store apparently doesn't do the whole "lot schedule" thing anymore, so it's basically up to the whim of one of our FES's (or, well, any key person or manager) who goes out when. That's got to suck. In fact, I know it does.

ours does the 'lot schedule but to what extent I don't know.
Many times we have had people be scheduled for 'lot duty when they don't come in.
Example: They come in at 6:30 p.m. and are 'lot from 6-7.
Has happened to me several times.
I wouldn't whine as much if I understood how it worked.
However, at this point, I think our morning FESes just put names into a hat and draw at random.
It never makes sense and never will.
Like, how do I work a goddamn four-hour-shift with three of those hours in total in the parking lot?
Who did I piss off? *sigh*

Two or three co-managers ago they did away with the water cooler at our store.  Yes, our courtesy clerks have no water.  They either have to go all the way to the back of the store to the water fountain or buy water.

They also took out our soda machine.  But - before they did they started filling it with damaged Big K sodas.  Half the time you couldn't even open them they were so dented up.

Several times I've seen courtesy clerks come in looking like they were going to faint.  I've told them to sit down while I get them something to drink.  Nobody has said anything to me or them yet.

Man CC's are so underpayed. I am a cashier and I get $7.45 starting out and they get $7.25 starting out. I wouldn't mind kroger taking $.10 from my paycheck and giving it to the CC's because we got them outside when its 100+ degrees out.
