Possible division transfer
Permalink

I may need to transfer through divisions as my boyfriend has a job opportunity that is too good to pass up. Although it would be excellent for him it would mean that myself and my daughter would no longer be insured. I was just curious to see if anyone had information on division transfers and what they are really like. Are they guaranteed? Would my 401k transfer? How would my full time/part time status transfer in terms of having company seniority over the employees at the new store? Any information would be appreciated.

Each division's contract specifies what will transfer and what won't, so you really need to ask someone in hr these questions.

1) no

2) Probably yes, i'm not too sure though, as they are handled by Kroger.

3) If you are full time you can apply for a full time but it's much harder to get. If you are part time you'll still be part time unless they have a full time opening. Your seniority will most likely be lost (check with HR at the place you're transferring to). Your pay will most likely be based on experience pay.

I appreciate the responses! I have put in 11 1/2 very long years with this company and have watched it changed from a very decent place to work to a company that no longer gives a **** about their employees. My store manager has had a love/hate relationship with me from the very beginning so she isn't someone I can go and talk to about my situation.

Your 401k belongs to you, even if you left the company.

 Yup.

Experience pay usually means $1 over minimum wage in the area you are moving to.  If you move from Texas to California, that might work in your favor but the cost of living in California is astronimical.

Basically, you are quitting current job and starting from scratch at another store.  The recent contracts suck and have a very low top pay.

You would need to ask managers at both stores to see if it is possible to keep payrate and senority.

If the bf is definitely long term forever, then it might be a good change to drop everything at Kroger and start from scratch in another career.

Are they guaranteed?
They don't have to create a position if hours aren't available in a department, no. If hours are available and you have seniority over other workers, you shouldn't have a problem transferring. But it is very important to speak with the division manager ahead of time and find out for sure. Give them time to prepare.
Would my 401k transfer?
Of course, so long as 401(k) is provided at your new store. You will never lose the account, even if you quit.
How would my full time/part time status transfer in terms of having company?
This is impossible to answer without speaking to someone at your destination store or that division's manager. Everyone that has transferred to my store as a full-timer has stayed full-time. But again, it depends on hours available. Ex: a department has 20 hours left over per week; they don't have to add 20 more to it to bring you in as full-time.

I really appreciate all of the helpful responses! I have one of those store managers that likes to think you are going behind her back if you go over her head to get answers, so I'm in a tricky situation. I would love to walk out of that place office space style, but only if I know I'm done with the company.i am more or less concerned with having health insurance when I leave, but I talked with a lady that had 15 years in that came to our store and her insurance wouldn't kick in until our contract allowed. I guess I have alot of options to weigh and again, I appreciate all of the helpful responses!
