Contract this, contract that -- how can I see mine?

I'm assuming that as a member of the Union I have a second contract on top of the first that I allegedly have from coming on as an employee.
How do I get a copy of either one?
If you've read any of my other posts, you know that my boss is a bit of a jackass and even threatened to fire me for something someone else said that I said about him.

Think it's time I at least knew what was in my so-called contracts to know my rights as an employee and what the union could or would do for me if this bozo decided to can me for rumors.

Contract. Singular. If you're a dues paying member (or even if you aren't and are in a right-to-work state) it is a violation of federal law to refuse to give you a copy of your union contract, so all you have to do is find a union steward and ask them for a copy. If you don't know who that is, ask around.

I keep reading about contract though.
The documents that I signed when I was hired on.

Screw you. Get back to work so you can give us our dues for doing nothing for you.

Signed,
The Union

By agreeing to work for Kroger you automatically signed with the Union contract, even though you may not have seen that Union contract with the initial paperwork. The paperwork you physically signed was mostly company info. The actual Union contract is pretty hefty - 30+ pages if I recall right, in which it specifies all the details of what it means to be a Clerk's Helper (CC etc) or Food Clerk (cashiers etc) etc, and all the other details about what you can and can't do including breaks and lunches and pay rates etc.
Ask your Union steward. Or call your representative. They can answer all your questions - we here, unless we're part of the same local, can only guess as to specifics.

If I signed with the Union contract, why was I asked if I wanted to join the Union? I don't get it.

Well, if you had the option of working for Kroger without being in the Union (I hear this is possible) and said you didn't want to be in the Union, then in that case you wouldn't have signed the Union contract either. But if you're paying Union dues you're in the Union and have signed the contract.

I'm guessing trooper isn't in a right-to-work state, where the end effect is what he described; if you work for a unionized employer, expect to be in the union, like it or not.

However, FrontEndSlave, you were probably just signing your normal hiring paperwork and not joining the union. Those were just policies and such.

I am in a right-to-work state, which sucks because almost any employer can let you go for almost any reason --- especially if you work in the 'lower' echelons of business such as fast food, restaurant or, yes, retail.

I didn't have to join the Union upon hire.
A representative visited soon after and asked me if I wanted to join.
I accepted. A few of my co-workers hired around the same time did not.
I pay an average of $7 per paycheck for Union dues.

Right-to-work has nothing to do with your employer being able to fire you for any reason. What you're thinking of is an employment-at-will state. Completely separate things. Right-to-work basically means that a unionized employer can't force you to join the union as a term of your employment and that you basically get all the benefits of being a union member without being one. Roughly speaking.

Ah. True. I forgot there were so-called right to work states, in this day and age.

Ohio's one of them. You want to work for Kroger you HAVE to be a ufcw member.

Then that would make it not a RTW state because TN is one and I'm not a union member.
