Asked to work a 4 hour shift on my day off.

So, I have Wednesday off, but I was asked to work a 4 hour shift (5-9) because apparently they have nobody. I don't believe that because another cashier told me today that she works 2:30-11 on Wednesday. I wanted to say no, but they practically begged me and said "Please, we really need you". Honestly, I don't wanna work on Wednesday. I had to work 6 days in a row(Sunday-Friday) & they were all 8 hour shifts last week and I worked yesterday, today, and I work tomorrow & Thursday. I really want this day to myself to recuperate. I have Friday & Saturday off too, but I'll be busy both days. Wednesday is really the only day that I have to myself this week.

If you haven't committed to it yet, just say no. You can do that.

5-9? That's one of the slowest, shortest, easiest shifts. In return they might be really nice to you on Wednesday. Might not seem like much, but covering a shift means a lot to a front end manager who is likely getting scolded by management and other departments for excessively using other departments to cover her shortages.

 huh?

5-9 is easily the worst shift. everyone is coming in to get dinner items. then those people who come in at 6, spend two hours shopping then come to the check out lanes all at the same time at 8 is awful.

the easiest shift is 6-10am. its slow but its easy

but i guess it also depends if it's senior day or not.

If you really don't want to go, don't. They can beg and plead (or "persuade") all they want, but tough. You had plans based on the schedule.

If you can't or don't want to come in don't worry about it.

Just don't be mad when you aren't scheduled many hours. I'm not saying they'll retaliate, i just mean that coming in for extra shifts makes up for the bad weeks. I try to go in as much as possible when asked, i just want more $$$ though :P

^ or, since you refuse to come in this time, they will assume you always will and won't ever call you in the future.

If you don't want to go in then don't. They can NOT make you. Not for ANY reason. If they pester and ask why, just say personal business. You do NOT have to tell them being as it's YOUR day off. If the keep pestering just keep saying personal each time they ask getting firmer each time. They'll get the hint (hopefully)

Warning: if they have been douchbaggish to you in the past they may "get even" by "forgetting" a requested day off, or "forget" to give you more hours.

Once in a while is ok, but do it all the time and they'll get use to you comin in all the time
