What do I do? Can they do this to me?

I spoke up for myself today. They gave me a written verbal about my "tardies" and I told them I would not sign it, so the co store manager wrote down refused to sign. So when I told her about working in a hostile environment and the CMS using his size to intimidate me, she said I could write it down on the back of the paper, so I did. And 10 min. Later my FE manager calls me to the front, not letting me finish it at all. So I signed it as needs more details signed and dated it on the back. Then not 10 minutes later goes by and he "somehow" found out. I was told that he wouldn't be told that it was me, and somehow he found out and made my shift hell. I overheard someone saying I was going to be fired because he denies everything. Can they do that? I have witnesses who were there and saw and heard everything he said and did. What do I do? I've been here for almost a year now and I feel like I'm being targeted. And today, everyone stayed clear of me, as if I have a disease? I have a bad feeling, they didnt even let me have time to calm down after they pretty much threatened my job.

I would have taken my time and properly put down all the info on the paper. The FE can handle things in their own sometimes. There adults. Document EVERYTHING they say or do that makes you feel threatened. Secretly record ANY and ALL conversations that makes ou feel uncomfortable and or threatened. EVEN if it's against company policy.

Sounds like they are targeting you. Just watch your back. Because if they are.... They might find a way to be rid of you for something as little as a fart.

Dude, this is kroger.
They can get away with any crap that they think up.
You may have seen my posts written about "A-Hole Man" at my store.
The dude who sent me and another courtesy clerk back out during a lightning storm to collect carts?

A-Hole man transfered to another division last week, thank god.
But before he did, about two Sundays ago I was whining / complaining / ranting to a co-worker about how he was micromanaging me out in the parking lot and how it was pissing me off and interfering with what I was trying to do. I said something to the effect that he should "mind his own business." Mind you, I said this only to my co-worker.
Well guess what, A-Hole man found out, called me up to the office, and yelled at me. Literally. And said that the only reason he wasn't going to fire me because it was "hearsay."

Trust no one.
I know there are plenty of people in this forum and out there reading and lurking whom have worked for Kroger for a long time and enjoy their jobs.
I respect that.
But there are plenty of others like myself -- and the person I'm responding to -- who deals with crap that makes it very, very difficult to enjoy our jobs.
Please respect our views just as we respect your own.
And recognize that management can, and if given the opportunity will, be dicks.
It doesn't matter if someone else said something, if you were promised something and didn't receive it, if you know what is being done is stupid or if there aren't enough people to do the job.
Management gets brainwashed through videos and corporate training. Then some of them get scared by it and take it too seriously for fear of demotions, transfers or firings.
I would like to think my A-Hole man was transferred based on his behavior toward me and other courtesy clerks in Front End. I don't know.
But all I can tell you, to sum this up, is yes, they can do it.

I have been written up once so far. I refused to sign it.
Management made a note of it on the write-up.
At the time, I might have thought of bringing in the union on it.
I was distracted, hot, tired, sweaty, frustrated, pissed off, racing pulse.
Just didn't cross my mind.
But if you (OP) are in the union, you might want to at least get to know who the steward is for your store.
Sounds like you might have to at least get advice under the table from them soon.

Where you tardy or not?  It is either a verbal(by mouth) or a written warning.

You should have left it at letting the manager write "refused to sign" and called it a day.

As for CSM complaints, it would be better to do this separate from a write-up.  If the manager and HR are buddies, you should skip the local management and take complaints to HR.  If you are harassed, complain to HR.

Other than that, stay under the radar until the write-up drops off.  Show up on time, do your job as instructed, keep quite and smile.

Good luck.

Contact your union shop steward ASAP. That is what the shop steward is there for; even if you aren't in the union, you are still covered under the union's umbrella.

Sometimes. Be careful when making such broad statements about something that actually varies state by state.

So wait a sec. They wrote you up for tardies, and you contested it? On what grounds?

If you're late, you're late. Unless the timeclock is broken, there's no real way of getting around it. Then you try to deflect by pointing out deficiencies or other slights in your department. Man, that's an amateur move with faulty logic.

You're not gonna get too far with this, I'm afraid.

On the other hand, if you do indeed feel intimidated or threatened, peruse it as a separate issue.  Just don't use it as imaginary ammo to diffuse your own punctuality problems.
