A common theme or should I say complaint around my store is that management doesn't care anymore. Were making money and as busy as ever and yet we're understaffed, morale is low and older employees are retiring or giving up long held Dept. Head positions because of this.
Well besides the rampant understaffing, I witnessed the lack of management caring the other day. Well I'm in the deli with the only 2 others scheduled to work other than the girl frying chicken. I went back to the big cooler in the meat department to get a big cart full of stuff to fill our meat and cheese case and our salad case. Just before I went to the back the girl making sandwiches went to lunch and our closer was watching the deli. Well when I get back on the sales floor in front of the deli, I find the chicken fryer all alone because our co-manager made the closer go up front and run a register. When he told the manager he was all alone and the chicken person was busy making orders, his exact words were "I don't care!" "I need people up front!"
Huh. Why don't you write down how much chicken was burned and report that big-ass SHRINK to loss prevention or even your district manager. It won't get the co manager fired but it might bring their attention to your store's understaffing situation.
Deli isn't even supposed to be up front. If it was that bad up front that they had deli people up there, then damn, your store must really be in bad shape.
I thought orders would be priority over anything. These are customers who have already decided to pay for something. Some of them have already paid. So screw the people in line.
Deli is almost first to be called. Grocery, usually only has 1 or 2 people (not gonna be called at all, they do their own thing), produce is called, meat is called. Most days those departments only have 2 maybe 3 (for a few hours at most) employees there at any one time. Departments are used as cashiers and baggers for half their time some days. Every 5 minutes or so from 2-8pm, we need all help to the front.
I too have seen the understaffing at my store. They claim there "arent hours to give" to workers. Seen holes in various depts when working my shift. Oh well i am just a employee and i "dont make the big bucks like management." If there store looks like crap because you cant give people hours to work and no overtime plus other problems then you store is just going to look bad.
