I came in and was hired had orientation yesterday came in for training and was told they no linger had the position open and Tryedto make me take a morning position iI told them iI could only do overnight when they hired me can they really do this what should I do I need this job hut I'm in school the hours that's why I needed overnight
As long as the availability you gave them is the correct availability of what you need and what they said they were going to hire you for then it sounds like a manager or department head is to blame for this.
Now whether or not they have the ability to let you go because you're still in your probation period I have no idea. I'm sure it's happened at one point in time but I doubt it would happen since you are not to blame. Chances are they find you another position or another department overnight and if you refuse then they let you go.
They told me they have a cashier position open but its for days I told them. I can't because I need overnights they told me they will call me when they find one open I think its complete crap
Seems like someone in either HR or one of the hiring managers screwed up.
Technically, they can't, especially if you've handed in your availability. However, they find ways around this.
I know this old lady who was "hired" as a cashier (even says so on her job app since I was hired with her in a job fair) yet she was placed in a service department.

Sounds like what happened to you was, one manager wanted you for over nights, but another manager bumped them and had you switched to their day shift. This kind of thing happens all the time. And no, being brand new and on probation, there probably isn't much you can do about it, sorry to say.
