When you hear "1+1" on the intercom, what it means is basically there are too many people waiting in line(s) and so someone needs to guide the customers to an open lane, or to self-checkout, or more often, to open another register. In our store at least, there are sensors (infrared, I believe) hanging above the lanes at a point where if there's one person being checked out/unloading and another one behind them, the front end may get a dip.
What I don't know is if this is related to Que-Vision's "action now" figure, or if Que-Vision only takes into account the number of customers entering and/or present in the store.
1+1 is not effective enough to be compliant. you need to do 1 per lane if it's a big order in front of small orders.
truth. you can even have three and be OK because the real metric is green half hours and "dips" and as long as you can get those customers through the line with none waiting more than about 90 seconds you could have 20 people.
this is why I hate no nothing management freaking out about not matching the predictor or not following 1+1 like it's been handed down by God. the issue is throughput and balancing the speed across all lanes. it takes knowing your cashiers too.

Kroger, at my store, frequently puts a single courtesy clerk to cover the entire parking lot and both entrances for carts --- even when we are busy. The other Friday, we had someone by themselves as late as two p.m. But if you cover the main entrance the secondary entrance falls low. If you do the other, vice versa. I have been told "divide your time" but if you have 20 carts inside the main entrance, bring in 10-11 in a single go, return and five or six are already gone, yea, that's not going to happen. I have told those coming out to relieve me that I have just ignored the smaller entrance and focused on the main.
My point? This is a case where, for Kroger, 1 + 1 = 1. I do not know how other departments are structured but with Kroger, Front End Math means 1 + 1 = 3. Two people to do the job that is needed for three. Especially if it involves cart retrieval or go-backs.

Uh I don't know where you get your info, but it definitely doesn't work that way. 2 is the maximum allowed queue length; anything more is out of queue. Anyone who has told you anything different is wrong as well.

Given some of the little nose pickers I have had to listen to, slide around or otherwise have get in my way as a 'bagger' I wouldn't mind the idea. but I also am too much of a person to enjoy my freedom to face those federal charges.

They "track" higher than that, but they don't care. The highest any division focuses on is 1+2 and even then, only in the food 4 less division because that's their standard.
