I'm very upset with Kroger payroll. We just got a 25cent raise last week and I'm making the same or even less then before! I'm very upset with this. I'm give all my time to this company and they just **** on all good workers so the more money u make the less u actually get.even my tax person says its almost like a punishment to better yourself  in the company.  What does the Kroger company going to do when all employees figure this out?

 Yah, I had same problem.

I think what happenned was:

The OP got a 25 cent raise but is now taking home less than before after taxes.  I am wondering if union dues, higher insurance or union legal fees were recently deducted from their check.

I was told the same thing happens for overtime.  The more OT you work, the more taxes they withhold.

I don't think so. In tax brackets, you have to fill up the lowest level and whatever is leftover is taxed at the next highest bracket and so on and so forth. So if I went from making $10,000 to $11,000 and for simplicity's sake there is a 10% tax for $1 to $10,000 and a 15% rate for $10,001-$20,000, I would have to pay $1,000 to cover the first bracket, and $150 to cover the next one. So my net income would go from $9,000 to $9,850. Of course there are a lot of tax credits to be claimed and you may have 9 children living at home or whatever, but overall a raise should increase your net income.
