I start as a back-up on Sunday. I am currently maxed out for part time pay. I understand that the back-up position gets a $0.50 raise. I was wondering if i would get max pay for full time starting Sunday, or if i would have to work the 8 weeks straight at 40 hours before getting the full time rate? Is it a possibility that i would just get the 50 cents, and have to work up from there?

Thanks,
I think you get automatic full time status upon becoming a backup, so your pay will go up a LOT.

This is NOT true in some places. In ATL division, you have to work your 40 hours for eight weeks to move to full time status under union rules even if you've been made backup. Then you'll get your raise. We've had part time backups before.
And my division's different as well. Here, you're probationary full-time until you've met a 38hr average over 12 weeks. We move to the next higher dollar amount on the full-time scale and progress accordingly, which put me from the 5.5 year pay rate on the PT scale to the 3.5 or 4 year rate on the FT pay scale.

My contract is different also. I am the back-up this week and will get my department managers' pay even tho I am a part timer. Extra $4 an hour and killa OT.

Here, whomever does the dept mgr's job (usually the backup) during any week that the mgr is out of the store at least 3 days gets the mgr's pay. However, to get the premium (but not the actual hourly rate) of a backup, they have to be out for at least 15 consecutive days.
