In todays episode of we "didnt show you that"......
I spent my shift stocking candy. I was told one way supposed "easy way" was to get a gun scan it and see if the item was "active/inactive". Luckily i was able to go the shelve and see what was needed.
so just how do you find if a product is "active/inactive" using a gun??
you go to item maintenance (1), scan the bar and one of the lines will either have an A(active), D(Discontinued) or I(Inactive) next to it. I think it's "status" or something. I don't remember but it's on the bottom-ish left.

Bagboy. What department do you work in regularly? I am getting the impression you are not a bagboy anymore. You know too much!!

But, knowledge is power...
Currently, i'm working as a bagger (by my own choosing) but i've worked in grocery(day/replenish/night stock), dairy, meat, Drug/GM and DSD recieving. I've sat in on sales meetings, supervised the floor, help set up gm shelves for holiday, scanned out old product, done vendor credits(i hate how books are being done now), ordered product, ect...
Basically anything you can ask your dept head, union rep, or manager I can do or have done before. I've never set up schedules though so that's about it. haha. TBH i'm amazed they let me go back to bagger but w/e I'll take it.

Checking the active or inactive status of an item only really helps if you're running their backstock. Obviously a new item is going to say active even if there isn't space on the shelf. Do be sure to check allocations for your candy though if you see too much coming in.

Bagboy, any particular reason to go back to the front end for bagging rather than staying in one of the other departments?

It's simpler and the work is steady. I don't particularly like having work in front of me that red tape and regulations prevents me from doing. That's why i like DSD and bagging. if there is work - i can do it with little hassle. I would prefer to work as DSD but the lady that's doing it has over 30 years with kroger and i would have a super ****ty schedule going from mid shifts to morning shifts and back all week long. it was tiresome so i went back to bagging. I like the front end and talking to people helps me out where i don't get much interaction at home (single and 30 ftl).
All-in-all it's because I get a more consistent schedule, and I like the front end.
[EDIT:] I do a lot of cashiering when I'm on the floor but as long as I'm not being thrown around a lot i stay happy. I dislike being juggled around so quevision factored in on this too.

Even so, the pay is terrible. Surely you must have another job to support yourself? At least in other departments you can eventually go full time and have a somewhat decent living wage.

Agrees even if you do like it working on the front end the pay overall at kroger is horrible!
