Our little friend Mr. Que-Vision said that we had 10 registers open on-and-off for nearly an hour.
It was like The Walking Dead, every time you turn around it's another zombie-walker. Only no zombie-walkers, just Kroger customers. Some (like myself) would ask "What's the difference?" Walkers don't spend $321 in groceries in a single go.
I asked a co-worker who has been around for awhile on his opinion. His answer : "It's November, we are going to be busy the entire month."
THEY. JUST. WOULD. NOT. STOP. COMING.
And as usual we couldn't keep carts in the main entrance storage area. Our corrals looked like someone just abandoned them after a Walking Dead apocalypse. Gee, I can't think of any reason why I keep using that show slash universe as an example of work.............
We are absolutely singing from the same sheet music, my friend......In my decade-plus working in retail, I have NEVER before seen such an absolute.....FRENZY of shoppers.
My trucks are literally doubling in size now. I love it. More reason for OT. Get ready for thanksgiving week and every other person asking where the cranberry sauce is! hahaha
Sundays have an extra special SUCK to them. Management is more pissy-ass, customers are more pissy-ass and co-workers are more pissy-ass; don't work Sundays no more. Phuck that.

Try working in the meat department during Thanksgiving! Everyone wants a damn turkey, but none of the ones we have out are the right size. They want exactly 16 pounds. Not 15.95 pounds!
Or they come in the night before Thanksgiving, buy a FROZEN turkey, and ask how to thaw it out before lunch. My answer: You can't. They don't like my answer though.
i especially hate the customers who ask "why is it so busy today?" like i know exactly why every customer is coming to a grocery store. I always respond with "why are YOU here?" and when they tell me why I then say "That's why."

Awesome! I once had an eerily similar conversation with a customer. HE: "It's Thanksgiving Day, you'd think an American based business would close for that. HMMPHFF. In my day they would have."
Sundays have always been our best day of the week. Recently, sales have increased on Mondays too.
The Cranberry sauce is in aisle 1, near the holiday display at the end of aisles 2 and 3 and on a wing in aisle 14. If none is there, we have some stashed away in the backroom.
Last week we had ALL checkstands running and it was as if someone opened the "floodgates" and "forgot" to shut them again. It was so busy that EVEN outer departments that had a register were ringing people up that they could. Lines were all mish-moshed. You think your getting into a line to checkout? Nope. Your in a line to get around those who are in a line to go down an aisle for product. That's how it seemed. And those "floodgates" will remain "open" until they are damned ready to "close."
But it makes the day go by faster. They can't call me from my dept to bag (not that I'd show anyways) because the customers are grabbing product as soon as I prep it and put it out.
this year seems a bit different. we're seeing more traffic mid-afternoon and it's killing us. we're still not fully staffed and we're two weeks from thanksgiving. it's ridiculous that we still have people trickling in from the training centers at this late date.
I just laughed out loud when i saw that co.cktail rye was censored.
Last year I made the mistake of shopping the Saturday before Christmas and the lines were wrapped around the store and down all the way past dairy to the meat department. There wasn't a faster checkout at Kroger that day. But I imagine Walmart was even worse.
I don't know about you folks, but as an FES busy days are my game. The pressure of the swarm of customers, the threat of random mishaps and the challenge of negotiating various customer problems give me an incredible thrill. Balancing customer needs and my associates' well being give me a blood rush. It's a battle every day that I elect myself to fight. Every day I unsheathe my sword as I walk away from the time clock. I 'fight' for our customer's needs and I fight alongside my brothers and sisters every shift. I'm ashamed I cannot share this joking fantasy of mine with my coworkers, however. I admit I am a part time FES since I am in school so I do not live off my shoddy earnings, but I have only met one non-managerial associate as enthusiastic as me and it frankly saddens me.
