Department Hopping?

So I'm currently a cashier that's been putting in some extra hours for HBC, and recently a position has opened up in the department that could lead to me being transferred if I wanted. So far it doesn't seem to hard to handle, but I'm sure that will change with the holidays approaching. The department head has basically said she would love to have me on, but we both know the FEM is already going dragon lady over losing other front-end people to both school and other departments.

Though I was wondering if a spot opened up would it be better  to stay on front end or jump over to HBC? I really want to hear more of what everyone thinks both personal opinions and sense-wise about other departments besides front end. Since that's where I've been up until these last few weeks.

Ask yourself which one you liked better.  From my experience, 99% of the people who leave the front end to go to other departments don't return.  The best part is you have more freedom when it comes to taking your breaks and lunches.  You also don't have to deal with as many customers.

I went from cashier to HBC.  I was first one called for surge help and most days the only one.  I ran myself to death back and forth back and forth.  I never had time to actually do any work in the HBC department.  I'm back to cashier now and floral back up.  It's alot less stress and I enjoy it more.

I'd rather be stocking shampoos than working a damned register all day like some soul-less robot.

What is HBC?
I'm drawing a blank, it has to be the same as Drug/GM but what's it stand for?

 Methinks it's health/beauty care.

Can you work by yourself? The reason i say that is because we have had several people from the front go work in grocery but they get sent back to the front because they cant work on their own. You have to be motivated to work by yourself. From what i have seen not all by some on the front end "need" to be supervised. Also i would ask how many hours would you be getting compared to being on front end.

As for me i rather be stocking/etc than being at the front end!

I'd rather be working a register and talking to lots of people than just picking up stuff and putting it elsewhere like some soul-less robot!

To each his own, Lord U-Boat.

You clearly never worked at the store I worked at.  There was never escaping the front. Oh you might end up in another department. But you would still get called to the front constantly either to run a register or to bag.  Drug/GM (which was also the HBC in our store), Dairy and Produce were their fav departments to call on for help.  This of course made it hard for anyone in any of these departments to actually get everything done.  Occasionally someone from Deli or Bakery would be called over.  BTW at our store Floral was actually considered part of the Produce department even though it had it's own head.  I gotta say she did a good job with Floral too and was one that was constantly called to the front. In my experience, no one ever can fully escape the front end.
