Pay Rate/Six Month Pay Raise Question
Permalink

I am a Front End Clerk. I was hired on September 7, 2014. I was looking at HR Express under Salary/Wage Rate Information and I have several questions:

1. My Current job Step is 100 with my Next Job Step listed as 500. What does this mean?

2. Accrued Credited Quantity is 8.00 and Quantity Remaining is 18. What does this mean?

3. I was told that Front End Clerks get a raise at 6 months, 1 year and then yearly after that. At my six months (2/7/2015) will my pay go to the amount in the 'Next Pay Rate' section? There is a .40 difference from my current pay rate and my next pay rate - I thought someone told me the six month raise was only .10.

1) If your next job step is 500, that means you're a courtesy clerk with only 1 wage increase before you are maxed out in pay. Job step 500 is your final non-cost of living raise.
2) That's how many weeks you've worked since your last wage increase, and how many weeks remaining till your next raise at your current average hours.
3) Clerks/Cashiers(Not courtesy clerks) get sustained wage increases that depend on the contract but are typically very small every 6 months for the first 3 years, then get larger per raise after that. Everyone(maybe sans courtesy clerks) gets a yearly increase as part of a cost of living raise(usually minimal, 0.10-0.15$.

If I were in your boat, I'd try to get into a regular clerk position in any department or work towards becoming a cashier so that you'll actually have a halfway decent wage after some time.

Thanks for the information!

I am currently a cashier, the only position I have held since being hired. I make $10.10 an hour now and my next pay rate in HR Express is listed as $10.50. I mostly work 8-12pm (closing shift) so I also get the .60 night premium, so technically I make $10.70 an hour during my week shifts.

So based on my current avg. hours, in 18 weeks I will get a raise to the next pay amount list ($10.50) and still get the night premium of .60?

Been there for only a few months and already topping out?  That's interesting, guess your contract is different in the experience pay clause.   Our contract has a max experience pay bonus that starts clerks/cashiers out around $9.00 an hour and takes another 18 months to top out part time ($10.70).  That's why I assumed you were a courtesy clerk, since they only get 1 raise here.

Correct.  Except for contract raises(yearly)  Usually in the 10-20 cent range.
