I went through my interview and then went through the orientation for Drug/GM. I'm scheduled to be at the training center for the 2 training classes tomorrow at 8 AM. I'm doing both in one day. What should I expect for tomorrow? I've never worked for Kroger so I'm totally new.
This is taking place at the training center in Alpharetta Georgia. They are called "Intro to Kroger" and "Connecting with Customers". The first one is 4 hours and the second one is 3 hours with an hour break between them. Lol
This is a shock. One of my friends who as a cashier when she started, was moved over to Drug/GM. Though they still had her on register a lot. Always calling when she was busy for her to come to the front in. Then they would also work her overnights on register as well. As far as I know there was not much real training for that. So prepare to get bitched at a lot if you don't come when they call. Prepare to be bitched at for not getting your work done despite it being their fault for calling you all the time. Prepare to be bitched at as well for when the truck is late and because of it you can't get everything is done. Also you can say goodbye to most of your breaks. Many times the Drug/GMs at our store didn't always get breaks including my friend. Hell my friend was encourage not to take her breaks by management. They also seemed to encourage her to work on her lunch when she was off the clock. Something I personally would have raised hell about. I had to deal with my own bullcrap as a bagger. My advice quit kroger ASAP.

When they do "Intro to Kroger" be sure to ignore most of what you watch because I guarantee you that almost none of it will apply to real life situations. Like how we had to watch a video a few months back as employees and in the video this one employee was an Einstein about avacados or whatever it was at the time.
And "Connecting with Customers" won't show you the customer service desk where you'll have to tell a customer you can't cash his check because of X reason and the employees who have been doing it so far have been doing it wrong. Or how the grumpy black man with kids will yell at an insult a bagger for how he is attempting to bag and all because it is difficult for the bagger to understand the black man due to his low voice volume. And of course the customer who when a six pack of bottled beer breaks in the parking lot will just put it into a small shopping cart, walk the cart to the door, shove it through the door and walk away without saying anything to anyone.
Yea. This is Kroger. It's like Disney World without the employees passing out in the Goofy costume due to the lack of hair and the heat.
Yeah the videos and what not showed fairy tale land versions of Kroger and taught common sense things. It was a long and boring day but at least we were on the clock. The trainer ladies were nice and funny though so it made it not as bad.

At least you're not training for cashier there. The training center is useless for that. Meat dept too, it's not relevant to what goes on in the stores.
What is even the point of using CBTs? Well when you watch the CBTs for knife practices or operating electric jacks, Kroger will be able to say that an employee is "adequately trained and knowledgeable" about the equipment when there's an accident. When you actually need to learn how something works, you'll almost always need to ask a co-worker and hope that they know a thing or two.
I did most of my WBLs/CBTs today and almost fell asleep. Just kept clicking forward and then Acing the "quiz" at the end. It's mostly common sense it seems. I asked a Drug/GM at another Kroger earlier what his job was like cause I just got hired for that position and he just said "it's a lot, you'll learn to love the makeup isle", whatever that means. Haha They got me working 33 hours this week when I put down 20 hours on the paper that asked how any hours I wanted. My hiring lady said my dept. head has me working along side her hours so she can train me this week I guess. Curious to see what happens with my hours after this week.

I hope you have a good excuse for complaining about getting 13 extra hours, because I'd take as many as I could get if I were you.
Didn't know I had to have an excuse for my life schedule. I got a kid I gotta watch at home through out the week. I'm fine with it if I can get it worked out, but I wonder if I'm only getting those hours this week and they won't be like that afterwards. I've heard the hours here are unreliable.

The hours are made by playing a game of Solitaire and figuring out which employee gets to be the Ace and which one is the two of spades.
