Normally, I'd often come to the defence (yeah, defence) of courtesy clerks because of how much **** is rolled down towards them. Then, there's clerks like this guy:
Spoiler
He just stood there for more or less 15 minutes while being on his phone. How do I know it was roughly 15 minutes? Because I was parked right in front of him while waiting for someone.
One of the assistant managers was on duty tonight so I let him know that one of his clerks were dicking around. Funny thing is, he seemed to have an idea who it was just by the look of his face.
Meanwhile, the other courtesy clerk out on the lot (short girl) was hauling carts around.
I should've done a customer rant on that clerk. At least I'd be able to test out the limits Kroger would go to please a customer.

Neither are cashiers. I was in my store late one evening when I took my mom shopping. I told her to go through the check out that had people in it instead of the one that was empty. The girl on that one was on her phone while ringing up customers, and complaining about everything on her hurting because she's 7-8 months pregnant. Management wasn't anywhere to be seen.
Not all employees are awesome, period. I've seen people in every department screwing around. But I think courtesy clerks get a lot of sh*t for the amount of work that they do just because everyone knows that they are the lowest on the chain.
70% of our CCs suck. They are lazy and do the least amount of work possible. It sucks for the good ones since they have to do double work cause of their ******* co-workers. Most of the men CCs won't do lot and sit outside on their phone knowing the FES or FEM is not gonna check up on them. Then they leave and the person closing lot has to do double the work and then the closing cashier has no bagger for the last 2 hours.
I had the rare customer that thanked me for "doing what you do" this week when I was pushing a row of about nine large carts with one hand and pulling a row of about ten small ones with the other, both toward the store. That was nice. Wish it would happen more often. I pride myself on my work ethic and it's the reason I haven't walked off this hell hole yet.
I hate sitting out in the parking lot and noticing a courtesy clerk doing nothing, on his phone or talking to somebody for twenty minutes. Our dept head has done the same thing and called me in store to tell me. Just do your damn jobs please.
A while back I was on my break sitting in my car and saw a courtesy clerk texting in the corral I was parked next to. We made eye contact, but he kept on texting. After a solid 10 minutes he pushed a whopping THREE shopping carts into the store. A couple weeks later he popped off to a co-manager about having to clean the bathrooms like it was below him to do it and he got fired for insubordination. God forbid a single second of the UFCW's time goes towards trying to get this jackass his job back.
