Technically, since they're salaried, they have a fixed pay that they must work the minimum hours required of them. I know of salaried management who worked 60-70 hour weeks.
I don't see why you wouldn't get in trouble. Management included. If Kroger pays you to work a set number of hours per week then I imagine you can get in trouble for "getting paid whilst doing nothing"on a day you are set to work
I've heard stories about store managers and co-managers getting in trouble for theft of time. So it can happen.How much trouble depends on the hows and the whys. I used to leave a bit early here or there but only if my **** was in shape, and then it was at most 20-25 minutes on an evening shift only.

Our managers have always left very early(usually around 6-7) as we're a lower volume store. This of course causes problems since night crew doesn't get there till later and there is no overlap with night time department heads. Makes communication difficult, and giving writeups/disciplinary action impossible. However, our most recent round of co-managers have all come from much busier stores and are actually staying till they are supposed to. It's kind of nice lol.
At my store the managers refuse to work past 7pm. Nobody whines about it because the less trivial **** you have to deal with, the more you can get done.
