I Got A Tip Today
Permalink

Last week a lady came in and a bag of her groceries was left behind.  While I was bagging the next customers food I noticed it.  I asked the customer if she would mind if I ran outside to try to catch her, she said ok.

Today she came through my line and asked if I remembered her and the grocery bag she left.  I said yes, and she handed me a bill folded up.  She said "this is for you, I wanted to thank you for finding me and bringing my bag to me".  I told her thank you, rang up a few more customers then I looked in my pocket and it was a $20 bill!  I teared up, that was so nice of her.  I was just doing my job and it was really my fault she didn't get the bag in the first place.

Just wanted to share some good news for a change.

my best this 'season' has been a $10 tip for helping a woman bag her groceries, follow her out to the car and put them in her vehicle.

We are allowed to accept tips, but we cannot solicit them.

I accepted them either way. I just said they were a "friend of the family" and they were "paying back" what I "loaned" them. Tips should be optional if we want to accept or not.

I get tips from customers for helping them out to their car. We're not supposed to accept it, but I do anyway. I think of it as a nice gesture.

Thanks (sarcastic smile) it's obvious they came in to shop. I just tell them they came in for shopping (obviously) and they decided to pay me back.

And you've never said hi to anyone you know outside of work while on the clock?
