Over the Holidays my wife purchased boxes of "keurig" types of coffee to make gift baskets.  Mind you i have shopped at Kroger for over 15 plus years and basically do all my shopping there.  Tonight my wife asked me to return 4 boxes but could not find the receipt for the original purchase of these items.  I asked her what do i tell them and she informed me that Kroger would most likely just give me a "gift" card with store credit.  Okay i thought, no big deal, I was not wanting my money back anyways.  I planned to just use it towards the purchase i was going to make.  So i wait in line (this is a decent size and newer remodeled Kroger) for about 5 mins.  When i talk to the lady she takes the boxes out of the Kroger bags and informs me that i cannot do this because the amount is to high.  I ask her "how much could it be?"  I was told it came out to about 29 dollars and wanted to know if i had bought the items today or yesterday.  I told her what my wife had bought them for so they were probably bought sometime in Dec.  I then told her i wasn't expecting cash just credit or an exchange of some items i was going to pick up.  I was told i had to call a phone number and a receipt would be mailed to me or emailed to me.  WTF?  So now i am pissed.  IMO it seemed like she was trying to make me out to be a liar and i was trying to scam Kroger out of something.  I asked for the manager who i see quite often when i am in the store but was informed he was on vacation and some manager i have never seen came over and basically told me the same thing and would do nothing.  I know one thing.......i spend quite a decent amount of my money at Krogers, not just in food i also fill up our vehicles there with points i accumulate at least once a week.  After this incident i am done with Kroger and the HEB's that are moving into the area can now have my business.   Anyways rant off and good luck Kroger, with HEB coming on strong around here your days may be numbered.

Sorry that happened. But I'm glad you're no longer a customer there. You sound dreadful.

You didn't have a receipt and they explained the store policy and offered to look up the receipt for you.  Yes, this will take some time but it doesn't seem to me you were in that big of a hurry to return them if you bought them in December.

As far as HEB, not familiar with that store although I've heard of it.  The way Kroger is buying up every grocery store chain, HEB might have to watch out lol.  I doubt Kroger is worried about HEB.

Just remember to keep your receipts wherever you shop next in case you need them!

Well i lived in San Antonio for years mam and guess who is no longer there.  That's right Kroger.....or Albertsons.  Only Wal Mart has withstood HEB running them out.  Maybe where you are Kroger is not in trouble but here in 20 years they may be gone.  They lost one today.  I only found this site after putting in Krogers sucks in Google so was just ranting a little.  Not here to stay. Good Luck to you.

They're a plague in every retail store.

Take the coffee to another Kroger if there is one.  Just return two at a time or something.   Enjoy your new coffee maker, I love my Kerurig.

Well... you're no better off either, now, are you?

My friends in the upper-upper-middle class world consider Whole Foods as the "cheapest, bottom-of-the-barrel store" to go grocery shopping. Mind you, Kroger is much less expensive than that place.

I'm sure Kroger appreciates what little service they can offer you. Though, next time, try not to drain out your EBT card so quickly. Otherwise, you wouldn't need to return all of the nice things you bought using money that's not yours. ;)

It is a common scam for a person to find a receipt in garbage, find items in store and then try to get a refund on those items.

That might be the reason the FEM didn't give you the refund.

If you used a Kroger card, it shouldn't be hard for someone to get you a receipt so you can get a refund.

Don't let one bad experience ruin your thoughts of the entire Kroger stores.

 Burn.

I was gonna feel sorry for this guy, because I personally would've gone to store management first to see if there was anything that could be done (probably not since there was no receipt), but then he just had to go there with bottom-of-the-barrel.

Coulda donated it to those poor front-end employees over here in the Midwest who would use a little warmth in their lives in this bitter cold.

It's amazing to me how a customer thinks they're so much better than someone working hard at a job where they get treated like dirt from someone who thinks store policy doesn't apply to them!  If there wasn't so many scams (which by the way ends up costing the customer in the long run), maybe the store would be more relaxed about their return policy.  I've seen more and more people on Government assistance lately than ever before.  The government has more guidelines about what you can and can not buy.  A lot of people think they can return something and get cash so they can use that cash to buy their beer and tobacco.

I really doubt if the employee and manager were unprofessional, you just didn't get your way.  Life sucks when you're a jerk!

The entitled speak. disbelief

Management is not going to return something over $20 without a receipt.  It's not that hard to find a receipt if you can provide some details to the exact Kroger you bought it from to narrow the search.  Date, last four digits of the card used... something.

First off, very few people have the access and skills.  Next, it's not like we use Google, it's a vintage system.  It's a mix of art and luck.  It can be like finding a needle in a haystack.

There's nothing more "fun" than churning through hours of store transactions trying to find something when you have little to go on.  That's why they asked for a contact number because it's an open ended amount of time required.  Sometimes I can find them in a couple minutes, other times it could take hours.  "How did you pay?" Dunno.  "Where did you check out?"  Dunno.  "What day was it?"  It was sometime last week maybe.  At this point I want to beat my head against a wall.

Take it from somebody who finds receipts for customers regularly and also has to deal with people like the original poster all the time.

Coffee is one of the high theft items that get returned without receipts for credit.  It's not unusual enough that if we just scan it with an RF gun management can make a judgement call based on whether any items moved because coffee sells a lot and it's been awhile.

It's also fun to put in the effort to find a receipt and then the customer never comes to pick it up. bleh

Scary thing to note... if this is what Kroger store I'm thinking of... I have been there. I even used to know a manager there well.

As a bagger myself, I thank you for shopping at Kroger's and I hope you try us again! (Maybe another area one). Also fill out the survey :) It could help.

I just wish customers would leave me alone with their crap. They do nothing but contribute to the problem with the company that employees have to deal with.
