Part time hours
Permalink

Recently I got a new job and requested to only work at Kroger two weekdays so that I can work more days at my other job(which pays a ton more). At first I got it approved but then after it was in the system a different supervisor told me that I absolutely have to be scheduled a weekend day, which doesn't make sense because before i got a second job the only hours i was getting were two days a week anyways. Does anyone know if this is really how their system works or if I'm just being lied to so that it will be "fair" to other employees who have to work weekends?

they cannot schedule you outside your availability and if there are no hours to give you on your available days you may end up getting no hours

they are not required to make up shifts to give you hours

This is retail and you're new.  You're going to be scheduled weekends.  If you won't work weekends, then you should just find another job, because working weekends is part of the deal.

Uhh.. no. If the recruiting manager hired him, the manager accepts the availability that the applicant filled out. That's why (especially during group interviews/job fairs), the recruiting manager always asks and makes sure that applicants would be able to work at least one weekend. It's the recruiting manager's fault for hiring someone who didn't opt to work during weekends.

Now, of course, Kroger has a way around that. It's called "needs of the business". But at this point, the OP might as well stick to his other job and get more hours there, if possible.

Go to your union rep and ask for the best course of action. They don't have to work with your availability,I would suggest talking with your boss and see if u can come to a compromise. If you have a child then you can simply say you want to spend time with your child on the weekend, this may or may not work. If you have to work then do Saturdays that way it wont effect your other job. Good luck...

Are you unavailable on weekends or are you just wanting the day off because you think you've worked too hard all week? If it's the second I think that's crappy of you.
