I have finally gotten another job lined up and about to put in my notice that i will be leaving. Since the schedules are written weekly I plan to give them a week before i leave. I know others have given two weeks but is that really necessary?
Two weeks notice is a general rule of thumb. It helps avoid burning bridges.
I am guessing you are part time so your hours are probably being cut recently. They are going to need more than 2 weeks to train someone to get them up to your speed!
If you have a solid job(better pay and steady hours) lined up and have no plans to return to Kroger unless desperate, just give a week notice and go live happily ever after. Don't look back.
Two weeks notice is courtesy. Not required, but given for consideration.
How it's used in Kroger... let's say that the more "replaceable" you are, the less time you can put your notice in.
For example, the front end people can just walk out for the most part, since they can be replaced easily. Then you've got cake decorators or meat cutters, that should probably give a full two weeks notice since it's gonna be just a bit more challenging to bring someone else in, unless they have someone on hand to temporarily fill in.

Good luck on your future.
12 hours for me next week.
11 last week
16 this week
and a FEM that I question with labor that has driven my shoulder, neck and back muscles to pain.
......mentioning all of this because I agree entirely with the above-quoted response. Don't look back. But give at least a week. Two weeks is better, but if the other job starts sooner or you have an opportunity to begin it sooner, give a week.
Screw this company. They don't care. You are replaceable. You are part-time. You are headcount.
One week would be more notice than most people give these days. If you're getting less than 20 hours a week then its enough. Most people who drop two week notice end up calling in sick, doing a crap job for two weeks, or stop showing up. Give as much notice as your situation requires.
You really don't need to give notice if you already have another job lined up... give as much or little as you think that you can get away with.
They aren't going to train someone to replace you as much as panic about you leaving and throwing someone under the bus to fill your shifts.
True, at this point i am just working till the last few things for the job clear. I understand i am just a body to them so i will give them notice and move on. They will find someone (poor soul) to take over. My ONLY concern is "moving" on and a job with higher pay and consistent hours fits that bill!
FrontEndSlave I hear you! With all the BS i have seen them pull i have had my fill and now have something to go forward with.

It's an old, tried and tired axiom: 'Give two weeks notice'. I have two thoughts about that.
First, if they fire you, do you get two week's notice? Nope. Do them the same way. Two second's notice. And second, don't worry about burning return bridges.....unless hiring back to part time, bullshiit schedules for minimum wage appeals to you.

Read my mind!!
Been thinking about it and when i get the confirmation i plan to say "goodbye" and move on and not backwards by working at a company like this!
