So we have a security guard now...

The same day we start "PAL" we start having a security guard too.

I wonder what the hell brought the changes to our store.

Was it corporate, or was it the meeting of store managers that we had at our store about two weeks ago?

Something sure lit a fire. And the embers are still warm.

We've always had 'em.  They wander around in yellow vests that say security on them.  Don't do much really.

In my area I have found that it depends on how busy a store is on whether they get a security guard or not. However, the day time ones dress undercover and they don't like you announcing for security over the intercom. They like to be sneaky to catch the thieves. They actually do their job. Now the night time security guard is only at problem stores (night time weirdos) however, they seem to be more for show. They dress like a cop and some even bring their own gun (from 1970) however, I have found that whenever a real issue arrives (one girl was accosted in the break-room by a customer) they are useless. They do nothing and even watch as people walk out with stuff. Some even have their friends come in and hang out in the coffee shop with them all night.

Thats how they roll here.  We have a few who try to do something, but they're not allowed to do much.  If something happens in the evenings after real managers are gone, they are slow to respond (if at all) and I've seen 'em just watch people shop lift.  And start walking the other way when customers start yelling at each other.  They make min wage here so its kind of expected.  One of em told me, "Maan I get paid to do nothing and not care".

Oh man! A previous store I worked at got rid of all of our loss prevention people, and replaced them with rent-a-cops.

It sucked too, as many of them were off-duty cops just working second jobs for extra money. Pretty good folks, too.

Lol.. We got this one old guy... Seriously, I think he was 75, and he got irate with this ghetto-ish lady and her kids, telling her the kids had to behave or leave the store.

Tee hee... as you can imagine, that didn't go over too well. I thought it was awesome. :D

uniformed security guards have been rolled out in many stores that didn't have them before.  it's a sad commentary on how things are.

my observation is they bore easily, wander off and aren't really attentive.  not sure they offer much to deter organized retail crime.

the plain clothes from loss prevention are more useful because they can follow people around and catch them.

We have undercover LP.  There almost as bad as uniformed guys.  Just wander around the store yacking.  They should just get rid of them.  Aint stopping nobody from stealing.

Are you talking about walking around talking on their phone? Cut they're supposed to do that. It's part of their cover. Some aren't actually on the phone. Some just talk to other LPs.
