"For what reason?" (rude customer parked in no parking zone)

So today I'm on 'lot duty on pharmacy side and temporarily helping out the courtesy clerk who has 'lot duty for the main entrance because we were low on carts.

Well, at our store, the customers have decided that a No Parking zone is only a suggestion and it's okay to park in the fire lane if there isn't a fire.

Customer parks in the yellow diagonal striped area just outside the main entrance.
This is of course illegal.
And as it happens almost exactly in the path where we move carts in a diagonal direction-motion back into the main foyer entrance.

Me: *approaches customer who has her window down by about two inches*
"Can you move your car up a little bit please?"

Customer (ugly woman) *stares at me as if I just asked her to show me her breasts* "For what reason?"

Me: (trying to be patient) "We're moving carts through here and we wouldn't want to accidentally hit your vehicle."

She gives me the ugliest, most insulted look she can, as if I asked her to tell me her weight or age or something.
Turns to her passenger, gives passenger the same "What the ****, can you believe that??" look.

Waits about 30 seconds, huffs, then pulls up about one foot.

Oh yea I forgot to mention that behind them someone else was putting groceries in too.
But unlike this woman you could at least tell that this vehicle was going to move shortly.
But it still provided barely two feet if not less than that of space to move the carts through.

Basically she parked where she was not supposed to park.
I asked her to move her vehicle forward.
She got rude with me.
She acted like I had invaded her personal space, or asked her to name her weight, or something like that.
Essentially, like a bit-ch.

.....maybe next time she will learn not to park there, but I seriously doubt it.
These are the kinds of people that shop at my store, folks.

I was tempted to say for my response to her "Because you are not supposed to park here" but I am glad I didn't. With her attitude she would definitely have made a deal out of it.

should've said "well, i saw a tow truck in the area.. they love towing illegally parked vehicles. :)'"

but one time i was closing carts and saw the guy parked in the middle of the road.. not to the side, just in the middle of the street. he wasn't in my way so i continued for 10 mins. I went inside after and told the manager, he came out with me and we watched the dude drive off yelling "GOD BLESS YOU" to this random lady. She told us she told him he shouldn't park in the middle of the street and he started cussing at her.
She was a little old lady. I hope karma gets him.

An even better punishment would be to drive an electric scooter (for the disabled), and park it in front of/behind the car and then disconnect the battery. :D

You are a courtesy clerk, dealing with pissed off customers isn't really your jobs. You should either:

1. Deal with it

2. Go inside and tell one of your supervisors the situation, they will either keep you inside until they leave or they will go outside and deal with the customer on their own

3. Call the non emergency police and report the illegally parked car, they will usually send an officer over.

Your supervisors basically get paid to hear customers complain, so if there is a situation where you know a customer is going to complain, let them deal with it. That also protects you from customers making false claims against you.

I can't count how many times customers park their SUV's in front of the entry points of my local Kroger. Mind you, the store has two entry/exit points, separated by about 40 meters or so, yet people always find a way to block both areas. It's not just pain for clerks, but for other customers who just want to get in/out quickly. They also tend to block our propane tanks, too.
