"According to Glassdoor.com, an average cashier working at Kroger receives an hourly wage of $8.41, while the average courtesy clerk earns $7.75 an hour."

Where's my extra 50 cents then?
According to Kroger, if I work for two years I get a raise to $7.40 and cap off at that.

I can make more money in a single day as a background extra on a movie set than I can make money on a single day working as a courtesy clerk at Kroger.
That's sad.

OUR UNION is to blame for this.  They don't have to balls to negotiate decent raises.  Just get something through and say "Hey we got a contract!"

That's what I want to know. Why do we pay for a union that doesn't do jack for us. I've been with Kroger for 12 years and I make $9.90 an hour, how is the union looking out for my rights?

 Ha, what a sucker.

 

I never paid the union in my one year of there. Never signed on with them. I felt bad for the herd that signed up during orientation just because some smooth-talking rep gave them what's basically a used-car selling pitch.

 

I also felt bad for the ones who were trying to get out of the union. One of our CS people tried for THREE YEARS just to get out of the union.

Some people think it's job insurance. Is it really worth $8 a week to guarantee a $100/week paycheck though? After about 12 and a half weeks your regular dues will total $100. And this isn't even factoring in initiation dues!

Job insurance for what? The Fair Labor and Standards Act of 1938 was passed for a reason. Everything else in the union contracts are fluff, or do not give any better perks and privileges than other places.

Based on UFCW Local 1000's failure to represent, even a militant union activist would vote to decertify  . . . (with the hope of bringing in responsive representation).

And yes, both Krogrr and the UFCW should be ashamed of their non-living wages.

For a resident of a "right-to-work" state:

 

If you choose to resign and stop paying dues and are on automatic "dues check-off," you should notify both the union and your employer in writing that you are resigning and revoking your authorization for automatic dues check off. While you may resign from union membership at anytime, you may be limited to a specific "window period" before you are able to end the automatic dues deductions. I'd like to be able to urge you to stay in but can't when my UFCW business agent (who makes $77,000 a year from our dues) can't even be bothered to return calls from his members and stewards.  This is a sad betrayal (arguably, an illegal failure to represent) and a far cry from my experience as a Teamster.
