Can they do this? Reducing my pay?

I work in the deli, I currently make $8.05 an hour (minimum wage is $7.25 here). Next week, I was told I am going to be on the front end all week, as a courtesy clerk, and because courtesy clerks don't get up to $8.05, I will only be paid like $7.45 per hour that week.

Is that even allowed?

I don't think so. Especially if it's just for this week.

I don't see how they can, because aren't you still listed in Express HR as a Deli.Clerk?

In the past, when we had a deli clerk help out in the bakery, they were on our schedule but in a seperate category. We are Bakery.Clerks in E-Schedule, she was a Deli.Clerk. Shouldn't you be on the front end schedule but listed as a Deli.Clerk, not a Courtesy Clerk?

I could be way wrong on that, but it seems fishy.

Pay grades and employee classes don't directly correlate to what an employee is listed as in eschedule. I can schedule a CC as "front end.cashier" but as long as I don't actually let them do anything outside the CC job, they remain a CC and only get CC pay.

Hell, no.

They can't adjust your pay unless they change you in the computer and even if they do it can't go down it would only be frozen at $8.05.

If your pay gets dropped go to the union and your local labor board. sue the **** out of them.

Hell yes they can. They already have. Is what they have done legal according to your contract, probably not. I thought the deli was under the meat contract. That should mean you can't be a bagger. I hate the term courtesy clerk, it's like calling a trash man a waste management specialist. But back to whether or not they can do that to you, only if you let them. Remember that no one can take advantage of you without your permission.

Check your contract, contact your union rep.

File File File!  Talk to your steward ASAP! I'm pretty sure the vast majority of contracts do not allow you to receive a pay cut. I used to be a CC and was promoted to pt clerk so I could help in file maintenance and their hours were reduced so i was pulled out forever. Tried to take me back down to CC but contract doesn't allow it. I now get paid clerks rate for CC work. If your primary department isn't the front end, they have no right to reduce your pay no matter what.
