I work as a courtesy clerk/utility clerk (slave/head slave) and have been appointed 'go-back' champion ( I did NOT want this title in ANY way) meaning I am "head of go backs" it does NOT matter if we have extra help, I am responsible for the go backs. Well, being as I ALWAYS do the go backs Mon-Thurs, I have decided that Friday, is officially my non-official day off from go-backs. I have decided that the other courtesy clerks can do them on Friday being as I ALWAYS do MORE than my fair share of go-backs mon-thurs.
on Fridays I can put away the go backs given to me then and there. But as for carts? Uh-uh. It's my "official" non official day off from dealing with carts of go-backs. I'm tired of being the ONLY ONE that does them a majority of the time
Go backs are fun. We had a special visit one day. So, the night before I was volunteered to help do go backs. I had enough of my own work to do stocking shelves but, if they want to pay me $22 an hour to do go backs, go backs I will do.
I started with 6 full carts. I semi sorted them according to grocery aisles and then one cart for deli, meat, produce, vendor items and natures market. While I was stocking 2 carts, some goofball from the front end went thru and tossed everything back into one cart. No wonder go backs are so hard, there is no organization or common sense to be found among the cashiers.
Top pay is $15 for my job. I was on OT for the special visit.
I even had some double time once. I worked a 10 hour shift at my store, drove 45 minutes to another store and worked another 4 hours. I think I got paid double time for the 2 hours after 12 hours. And, yes, I have worked an 80 hour week before.
If you are the OP, you can make a decent living at your store but it won't be easy. It is more difficult for anyone hired after 2010 here. If you are educable, use Kroger for spending money and get a decent education. Your best option is to find a career that you are your own boss.
As for doing go backs: Take any job everyone else hates. Learn to enjoy it and be the best at it. Someone somewhere will notice your determination to get the job done. And might find a better spot for you eventually.
I went to an interview at another store once and saw a kid doing the sweep. He was pretty much dancing/skipping to the music from Kroger radio. I would hate to be the person that told him he can't do the sweep anymore. He looked so happy which is unusual for many Kroger employees.

They did that when I was a cc. I was pissed. I semi-loudly said "of all the STUPID things to do.... Even a mentally challenged person KNOWS better." Well, the person who did it got all pissy and reported me to management. They didn't do anything because they knew how hard I was working. To this day the person that reported me STILL is a tad cold towards me
