Need to bring my social security card and driver's license to them tomorrow morning. After that, it's orientation -- I work Saturday but if I can get it off somehow (call out?) I can attend orientation. Then it's basically a combination of being on the 'lot training with another employee and computer orientation.
I told her to put my schedule to be available from 1 p.m. -
Whatever happens make sure you are at Home Depot Saturday!!!! I'm happy for you!!! See if someone at Kroger can take your shift if not you could always call in, tell them something came up. Just make sure you get to Home Depot and don't leave Kroger hanging either. You can do it.
I'd be careful trying to do both jobs, we had a cashier get fired for that(working at HD). Similar competitor rule. Last time I was in HD I noticed they sell a lot of cleaning products and laundry detergent. Of course she was telling people about it. Keep it to yourself if thats the plan. Call in sick for your shift.
Quit Kroger, even if you are getting 12 hours. If you're losing 10 better paying Home Depot hours due to limited availability to work 12 Kroger hours, it may be more than a minor inconvenience. Think about commuting, getting the same days off from BOTH employers, and being treated different for not being "all-in." The only reason to stay at Kroger is to get health insurance. And if you don't qualify, then leave.
You could also just be available days for Depot and nights for Kroger or whatever hours work for you. I would change my availability at Kroger and not tell them I have a second job. None of their business what you do on your time off. I wouldn't worry about working for a competitor as you don't have a signed non compete contract with Kroger. Nothing they can do as far as I know.
I have to change my availability for Kroger at the moment.
I told the HR rep who called me to put me down available for 1 p.m. - 10 p.m. with Home Depot.
Home Depot, unlike the Kroger company, puts its schedule out in advance. Three weeks, to be precise.
I won't be getting much glory - hell, probably none at all. I'll be a Lot Attendant.
But at $8.75 an hour it's $1.50 more than I make at Kroger and the schedule is easier to work around.
Plus after six months there is the possibility to move into another department.
I think, I need to check, but I think the possibility of raises (small though they will be...) are out there as well.
As a courtesy clerk I need to work one more year with Kroger to even get a raise; even then, it caps out for me (thank you, UFCW).
So basically, it'll be Kroger availability from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. and Home Depot availability from 1 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Both are part-time.
Kroger : $7.25 hr
Home Depot: $8.75 hr
