i know all of this is in the new hire packet, and it was all covered in orientation, but what is the policy for calling off? Can you get in trouble? I don't want to walk to work in a thunderstorm, and quite fortunately I don't feel like being at work later. How many times can you call off in a certain period before being disciplined?

you have to call out 2 hrs before your shift is suppose to start (in my division)

if youre on probation they can terminate you for doing that once if they feel like it. if youre store is good, they will give you a few chances before firing you.

i havent called out in my year here at all. if youre here for money and a job there is no point of calling out cause "you don't feel like it". if it was an emergency then obviously it's different.

Not a reeeeeal positive sign if, right upon being hired, your first questions revolve about how much time you can spend away from the job.

Thanks for the info. How long is the probationary period once hired? By the way, I make minimum wage so I could care less about this job honestly. If I quit today, I'd have a new one next week. It seems they love to have me stay after, come in early, or on my days off, but the door doesnt swing both ways. They throw a temper tantrum when I am 5 min late, or take a 31 min lunch. Maybe instead of micromanaging th time clock, they could have an efficient back up plan for people who cannot make it to work.... I guess I just don't get paid enough to really care much about Kroger. No wonder the turnover rate is though the roof

Lucky you; it took me 6 years to get this job at Kroger, and another 7 months to get another one to supplement Kroger (although it's going the other way around at this point).

Although, I do agree with everything else. I had to call out one time and they flipped a **** because I was a closer.  Sorry, but that's why you plan/schedule accordingly.

By all means, please tell your next job about your beliefs!  Let them know you won't be in if it rains, you don't like to hassle with being on time, etc.  You really sound immature.

Yeah, you're really coming across like a little entitled brat. If you've been 5 minutes late more than once, here's an idea - leave 5 minutes earlier next time. I've NEVER been late to work in 3 years, even in bad weather, I have enough sense to get there early.

I am deathly afraid of thunderstorms. There was one within the first month of me working. You do what you need to get to work. Not wanting to walk to work in a thunderstorm would be considered a non-legit excuse.

I used to walk to work.  Everyone knew I walked to work.  If there was bad weather all I had to do was call and someone would come and pick me up or take me home if I was at work.  They would rather come get you than spend an hour or two on the phone calling for someone to replace you while people in other departments have to interrupt their work to come cover for you
