I am a grocery clerk, and for my second day on the job all I did was blow up balloons, and helped one of the other employees move 3 pots to the entrance. However as I'ce stated in my "First job" post I didn't have a schedule and was mainly set up by the manager just asking me if I wanted to come in tomorrow. So on the second day when I was leaving I ran into the lady who helped me with my schedule and asked me if I was coming in tomorrow; so I just said "I don't know because I didn't. have a concrete schedule". So she said she would give me a call to see if the manager wanted me to come in. Today I got a call from the lady saying if I wanted to come in just come at the same time. I don't want to go in today so do I give her a call and tell her or just not come in? I appretiate any response.
Thanks for the response; I just called and said. A little bit was inaudible, and there was mention of "extra hours" or something, but like I said inaudible.

First of all, I don't think you were actually hired as a grocery clerk. If you were a grocery clerk they wouldn't be having you blow up balloons. At my store at least grocery gets too few hours to hire someone to stand around scratching their crotch. And when you do get an actual schedule feel free to not come in when you don't feel like it.

I just don't feel good going to work knowing that I didn't get any legitimate training so I don't know what to do if a customer ask me questions about the service desk, floral, prices, coupons, location. I just don't think this a good first job for me because of that. Because of that I don't feel like I could help anyone which really sucks to me; I just want to learn how everything works without having anyone ask for help until I figure everything out.

The only way to learn is to go in and learn as you go. Always try to be helpful with customers. Most will understand that you are new.
Learn where the general departments are in the store. For prices and coupons, send the customers to the service desk or to the appropriate department for help. Find out if you have a price checker in your store. Mine has one every couple of aisles. As a grocery clerk, you want to focus on the grocery department lay-out first. Then, learn some of the items in other departments. Know where your products are. Canned veggie aisle. Condiment aisle, bake aisle, Breakfast cereal/school lunch products, Coffee, Gatorade, juice, chips, bread, pet food, household cleaners/detergents, paper towels/toilet paper. Ask the Customer Service person if they have a map of the store that shows where products are. If any, they are usually in the entrance near the small carry baskets.
Try the job out for 2 months before you get discouraged. You will look back in two months and see lots of improvement in your retail knowledge.

Are you some kind of special needs person? If you can't work in a grocery store, I don't think there is any good first job for you. No sarcasm intended.

lol don't mind that anon person. He's just grumpy because he didn't get paid to inflate balloons. Besides, there's a reason why he stays anonymous. xD
Anyway, I remember being hired first as a "night stock". Guess what my first shift was? In the produce during the day.
Never worked an overnight shift during my time with Kroger. Then when I was coded as a grocery clerk they had me doing front end stuff half the time.
