I've been in the company for a year as a CC and i am going to finally graduate hs, my manager gave me some choices for advancing within the store, i can either go work for Grocery, Produce or Meat or stay on the FE. What are the pros and cons of each? Which one is the better Choice? P.s I've done a bit of grocery but just milk replenishment and receiving the Peyton load but thats it.
I would definitely pursue higher education. The dollar to stress ratio is not the best when it comes to careers. That being said, if you're intent on not going that route:
Meat is a good option as it pays the most due to specialty meat cutting skills once you've trained to be a meat cutter, until then wages are the same.
Grocery covers the umbrella of dairy, frozen, dry grocery, and nutrition. All of those are pretty similar. Dairy and nutrition work during the day time, the rest overnight shifts. If you don't mind solid work, are physically capable to lift heavy items, and not having time to chit chat often, they can be good options as well.
Produce is a good option for those less physically capable as you won't have to be on your knees all the time. But you will be called up front a lot to help bag.
FE is best for those who are very outgoing and thrive on constant interaction and do not easily succumb to stress.
The end game in store for all of these are obviously the department head positions. All of those pay similarly in most contracts with meat earning usually a couple dollars more an hour than the rest.
If you want to advance further you'll need to get into MD1 and train to become a co-manager. Some divisions require a 4 year degree for this, so if this is something you'll eventually want(or need financially for you to be happy) then take that into consideration. That is basically the first step in the corporate ladder if that's the path you desire.

Where are you that "meat cutter" is still an option? I will move there tonight.
I can do ALL the cuts of meat, I am still a meat clerk. My coworker, also in the meat department, has been with Kroger for 10 years. Still a meat clerk.
I don't think "Meat Cutter" positions are available to get anymore, I think those contracts are gone, unless you were already a meat cutter, and haven't left Kroger yet.
Why would you want to advance with Kroger? Get an education and a better job. Retail is for the miserable
I understand, i still dont know what i want to study for, i was just thinking of working and just knocking out the pre requisites before I carried on with formal education.

"Knocking out the pre-requisites" is a terrible idea if you still don't know what you study for. Imagine two semesters from now when you're told that half of the classes you've taken won't transfer into your degree.
You will also set yourself up to end up with barely getting enough classes to be considered "full time" for financial aid. Upper-division classes will end up being a once-a-year deal unlike your core classes.
Tl;dr: Start thinking now, or you'll end up like me.
Knocking out the pre requisites to be a Kroger manager? So you're going to pursue management because you don't know what to study, but when you find out you're going to pursue that instead? Bottom line is you should explore more educational opportunities and job opportunities than Kroger or any grocery/retail store for that matter. I seriously doubt anyone has a burning passion for being a dept. head or co manager at Kroger.

Working for Kroger and going to school is a bad idea. They will jack with your schedule.
