Am I one of the few who actually likes their store management?

I see everyone talking about how bad their store managers and co-managers are, but it really isn't much of a problem at my store. There are a lot of people who don't like our store manager, but they also understand that she's considered one of the better store managers out there. No one has any problems with our two co-managers either. Heck, one of them used to be a department head for the department I'm in, at another store, so he understands the job and does everything he can so we don't feel tons of pressure. If we need overtime and he's there, he'll tell us to just go ahead and keep working and get the job done and he'll take the heat for it.

I guess the only downside is that our store is short one manager, meaning most of the time someone has to page a manager for something, response time is really slow because it's generally just one of them having to do everything, because there is no mid-shift manager.

Na, I don't hate my managers. Normally they are understanding about most things. I've been having a lot of health/bad luck problems and They have understood my situation.... asked for notes and stuff a few times to which i obliged.

Those are the type of people who make good managers: the ones who have actually done the job they're asking you to do.  The worst ones are the ones who have never worked a day of their life retail, especially the ones just out of college and just out of management training.

Same here, our store manager is great. He's worked with the company for 35 years, started as a bagger, worked his way up. He knows that ELMS is not the end all be all, and takes the heat for most overages on hours. He's understanding with a lot of things, but won't take any **** if he knows you're intentionally doing wrong. Our co-managers right now are decent, have their flaws but nothing extreme.

I don't like the blanket statements that all of management across the board are terrible. It discredits those that still do care and appear human. I've worked with a handful that I couldn't stand, that exemplified the negative things said about them here, but I've also worked with more that I'd enjoy working with again in the future.

When I first started working at Kroger, I had a great store manager. He had been in the business for years... many years, having started out as a bagger. He would say hi and ask how I was doing, as he would for others too. He wasn't above bagging groceries and he wasn't above going outside and bringing in carts with everyone else when we ran out. He was the type of guy that listened to an employee when he/she had concerns and he would even go to bat for employees if he felt the employee was in the right. I firmly believe he was the glue that held the store I was at together, because when corporate stupidly moved him to another store, the store really went downhill with problems and shortly thereafter I left for another store. It's only gotten worse since I left because of bad/incompetent management and a store manager that yells at his employees, in front of customers and other employees, no less.

I have a pretty chill store manager now that I like, for the most part, but what I don't like is how he and the co-managers fail to hold other employees accountable for laziness. Write ups are treated like gentle slaps on the wrist because employees know nothing will follow those write ups. I've had really good co-managers that work well as a team and that I felt I could talk to, and I've had fairly poor co-managers that just seem to do... nothing and I try to avoid 'cause they''ll sometimes try and unload their work onto me. No thank you.

All in all, I would say I've liked more members of store management than I've disliked over the years.

Doesn't it seem odd, or rather convenient, that someone would make a post about liking their store management right when their doing the employee surveys?

No.  They like their manager.  How would saying "I like my Manager" make anyone fill out the survey with positive remarks if their Manager was a total jerk?  It wouldn't.

We switch managers so many times in my store that I can never remember their names.

I have yet to have anyone I'd consider a "bad" manager. I actually like all of the ones I've had or talked to at my store. They all are willing to work with you and help you out when you need it. Need time off, or to leave early? They'll work with you (provided you're not a habitual call-in sort of person). I'd say 9/10 you can change your schedule with only a day's notice if you need to and they'll work with you to make it happen.

When it comes to actual management stuff, they aren't hard-asses that are going to crack the whip or write you up unless you just really screw up. If you just make a mistake, they're generally really understanding.

Store director is ethically-challenged and semi-literate.  In other words, he's an ideal candidate for amoral corporate robot, mindlessly passing along the coercive abuse that is Krogrr's corporate culture.

We have a really nice manager who always makes us laugh with stories about the weird stuff his toddler daughter does and says. Our other managers are nice too and they've been very understanding when I've had health issues.
