Had to have Stitches..

Had to have 10 Stitches on the back of my head(basically on my neck.), and the doctor said that I should not jog or do much physical activity for 2-3 weeks while the stitches dissolve.

My question is, would Management be alright if I were to ask to not go on Lot duty during this time period? Im asking what you guys' personal opinion is on what I should do in this situation.

I wouldn't come into work at all, personally.

A courtesy clerk is still a lot of physical activity, compared to a cashier.

Your health is more important.

Is there any chance that they can still book me in a much less physical role? Even with bagging, I must excert a lot of energy and put Water and such into carts, so there's a good chance of something going wrong with that too.

they can if they choose to leave you off the schedule until you are medically cleared to work.

unless the injury occurred at work.

they may also require a note from your doctor saying you are cleared to work

if they know you have restrictions

I would highly suggest just taking off work until you're fully healed. If you don't and you overexert yourself at work, you're just going to prolong your recovery and be unable to work to your full potential for a longer period of time. I would get a note from your doctor and request to not be scheduled at all during the healing process.

The note you should get from your doctor is called a restriction.

It gives you the legal right to refuse to do anything that can be construed to be part of the restricted activity.

(It also gives you the right to sue if you can demonstrate any kind of retaliatory action, by manager or by the workers they're responsible for.)

A typical example is a no-lifting restriction that usually means nothing over 5 pounds.

Get it, and explain that you have a temporary restriction, but don't bother giving anyone a copy unless you're asked for it OR they insist you do something that you believe may be injurious to your health and/or recovery.

No.  If you have a restriction from the doctor, you do have to give it to management.  I would also keep a copy of it on you for when they try to get you to do something you aren't allowed.  It happens all the time.  They get the doctor's note and don't tell anyone about it, then supervisors give you work you aren't supposed to do.  I've had it happen.

Once you've put them on notice you can produce the document at any time. You also have the right not to produce the document unless asked for it specifically or there's an immediate need to back up what you've told them to be the case. I bring this up because there's no need to make any waves if no one asks you to do anything where you might get damaged during the time when you're healing. No need for everyone to be aware unless they need to be.

Also a word to the wise - when asked to do something that you need to stay away from for the time being, go out and try to find someone to help make the job happen rather than simply drop the hot potato back into your supervisor's lap. Yes you'll have to burn (or create) some chits along the way, but not everyone is an a$$hat and some people actually like to be asked to help (as long as it doesn't look like you're taking advantage).

will all depend one two things. First if it is a job related injury , then take the time off to heal. You will be paid for it. if it is not job related then the company could have you set out until you are at 100% and released from the care of a doctor. If you can go back  right away and do not have any restrictions then you are at the mercy of Kroger management. have the Doctor place the restrictions that you feel you need on a note with a time restraint on it.
