So I just started in produce.

I've barely been trained on how to cut fruit and they threw me onto cutting fruit by myself today.

8 hour shifts, no lunch.

4.5 hour shifts, no break.

yeah, i'm looking for a new job. I'll stick with kroger until I have something else, but these kind of conditions when I have to join a union that does nothing are deplorable.

At my store, we get in trouble if we work 8 hours without a lunch.

Talk to HR. At least in our store, anything more than 6 hours is a mandatory 30-min lunch at the very least, and anything more than 2 hours requires at least 1 break.

File a grievance with the union.  You pay them, make them do their job.  They MAKE you join the union?  You're not in a right to work state?

At our store they only let people who have been in the department for awhile and know what they are doing to do the cut fruit. You should get 2 15-minute breaks for the 8 hour shift, unless your a minor then you would get a 31-minute lunch as well.

The union suck. I've heard that they are scared of the company and rarely do anything to help us out.

You've heard wrong. The Union, at least in none right-to-work states, does their best to arbitrate between the company and the employee. In some cases there just isn't enough evidence for a defense to be made.

I'm, however, not saying that people aren't slackers but in an organization, as large as our Union, things do fall through the cracks. Build a strong case and the Union will surely back you.

What's a none right-to-work?  All unions in all NON right to work states are the same?  They all do their best?  You know this for a fact?
