switching departments difficulty

I've been a bagger for a whole year now, working my ass off every day for them, and only called off TWICE. I've asked management and HR so many times about moving and it seems like each time it's a different excuse: "wait til after the holiday", "wait after the remodeling", "I'll have to check to see if the front end have enough employees". It's sooooooo annoying it's like they don't want me back there.

Is there ANYTHING else I can do to get me into a different department?

It just depends on if any other departments need help. Sometimes there are stretches of time where staffing stays consistent. The only thing I could recommend would be to talk to the other department managers and ask them directly if they need help and that you'd like to get a transfer if and whenever possible. This also depends on how you're perceived on the front end. If a department manager goes to the front end manager and asks them about you, and they don't speak highly of you, they won't be inclined to take you on.

It also depends on the weight they see you moving. You can be working your butt off on lot, but only pushing in a few carts at a time. It could also be your height, I'm average height so I'm having issues because they want taller people to work in produce and floral.

Try to be patient with the process.

And before someone says I should sue. I work at Kroger, I don't have money to sue. Plus how would I prove it since I'm going off the fact that they've hired people taller than me to work both areas and are still looking for people.

theyre probably just lying to you. just dont want to tell the truth.

my store manager will "well, you talk too much and can't even do the job youre assigned" - is what he told one girl who wanted to move departments.

They've got you pinned down there for whatever reason, and no, they're not gonna let you go through conventional means. So the the following is something I once did, for years have been advising people to do, and it almost guaranteed will work:

SNEAK out of the department. Very quietly look around for something else you want/can do, determine there's a job need......then ambush the co manager over that area. Have a list of brief notes with you, covering all the reasons that person should transfer you. Focus on your strengths, keep it un emotional, and convince this manager you're the best thing that can happen to his department. It's all about selling yourself.

Again, done properly, I've never seen this fail.

Absolutely true.  It worked for me.  I changed departments twice from the front end.

That's easy.  They sucked as much in the other departments as they did on the front end.

So you went from Front End to another. Then back to  Front End and then to another again?

Or was it Front End to a different department, then a different department from that?

I was a cashier.  I transferred to Drug/GM.  I worked there for awhile then I was transferred back to cashier when they got a new manager and cut hours.  I had seniority so I was claiming cashier hours while I was in Drug/GM but eventually went back to cashier from Drug/GM so I could get more hours.  Same thing when I transferred to floral.  Floral department doesn't make any money at our store so they couldn't care less if anyone is over there or not.  (Except Valentines and Mother's Day).

Wait for job openings apply. It's not that difficult.

If they refuse to look at job openings at near by stores and apply.
