I had an interview last week for a courtesy clerk position. I was asked on the spot if I would like a position as a pharmacy tech. Of course I said yes, but she said since I only had 2 months of register experience that she had to contact this place on what my starting rate should be. I have gotten emails from Kroger saying im hired, but no email or call from her telling me how much. she said it would take 2 days to find out then we would set a date to take a drug test. nothing though
What state are you in? It varies by contract and store manager. Don't give identifying info about the store you applied to. This is not a Kroger sponsored site.
I imagine you start at minimum wage unless you have pharmacy experience. If there was a higher starting pay, I do not think it would be too much over minimum wage. I think it would be better than being a regular cashier. The customers would probably be nicer as long as they get their meds... :)
As a courtesy clerk, you only get one raise ever unless minimum wage laws change. As a pharmacy cashier, you have the opportunity to make an ok wage but it takes 6 years to get to it here.
As for hiring, it seems they do not communicate very well with new hires. Good practice because there is a lack of communication in the some stores. Call the person back (since it is after 2 days) and ask when they want to schedule drug test.
Save this site and come back. There is atleast one person that works in the pharmacy posting on this site. Others might be familiar with your payscale if you let them know what state you are in.
I will work in Tennessee. The woman at the interview said it is usually around 9.60 an hour but since I only had a little bit of register experience that she had to contact this place about how much I should get paid.
"You have GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! Kroger has stooped to a new low. Apply for a courtesy clerk position and they put you in the pharmacy? Oh hell no. I will never fill a prescription at Kroger (not that I do now). How does that even work? "I have a question about drug interactions" ...."What's interactions?" "The last time I took these they made me nauseas"......"Well, maybe you should get something else". NO NO NO NO NO!!!
Techs are not allowed to do any consultations with a patient/customer, only the pharmacist can advice people on their drugs. Techs are basically glorified cashiers.
Damn some of you are stupid as hell. A pharmacy tech does not consult customers on what to take. You go to school 8+ years to do that and get paid six figures. A pharmacy tech does some data entry, runs a register, and answers the phone. By the way, this is a position that will always pay more than being a bagger.
Depends on a store. In my store, minimum wage was $7.35 when I was hired as a tech, additionally I got $0.75 for being certified, so total I was paid $8.10 per hour. I'm at $8.40 right now, after 2 years, and that's mostly because minimum wage in my state went up twice. That's $0.30 after 2 years. THIRTY CENTS.
Definitely underpaid for the ammount of work and stress techs deal with. I think $10 would be fair, is that too much to ask? FML. Also, we are not allowed to consult patients, give any advices, etc.

In Texas, certified techs get at least 12. Walgreens and cvs pay u from 12-16 an hour. A tech at a hospital can get at least 20. the wages listed on this thread are ridiculously low considering the amount of training a tech needs to pass the state exam.

Well not all states are the same. And nobody said anything about pharmacy techs telling customers what to take. So who's stupid as hell?
