Recently our former backup got moved up to FE manager and transfered stores. The problem was that she got moved up faster than expected and our store currently has no backup. Our FE manager is looking to hire within to replace. Only thing is that mostly all of our customer service associates don't have the availability for the full time position. I'm a front end floor supervisor currently and just got full time, so that makes me ideal. I've been offered the position and basically said yes. I only been with the company for 4 and a half months though. I know being a backup is a very difficult position and I still need a lot of training if I'm going to do it. I just didn't know if there were any backups on this forum that could tell me from there own experience on what being a front end back up is like.
Is it the same pay as you make now? Do you like your job? Do you like working for Kroger? Do you like your management team? Do you want more responsibility? Do you mind working the hours?
They said they've been with the company for less than 5 months, meaning they're still making close to minimum wage. It would be a significant bump in pay to the tune of 5-6$ an hour. Definitely worth it if you can handle the stress and responsibility.

Under our contract it would be around 50 cents more an hour starting out. Years later, when they reach the top of the pay scale it would amount to about $1.50 more per hour.

That's weird, here it'd be a premium on top of top out pay. So, they would get bumped to top out pay, then receive a premium on top of that, regardless of time with the company. I cannot honestly imagine a FEM backup making 8$ an hour, that just seems like an absolute joke.
in the atlanta division that is exactly how it is.. you get 50 cents more than your current pay. Its disgusting how the company can justify that, but its how its done here. They are claiming in September that they will all be bumped to top pay though.

As I recall it's not top pay but 60 months which is 5 year pay, not 7 which is where we top out in this division. That's still pretty low in terms of a way in ATL division but once that happens the pay rate can't be reduced from that jump.
This division is ridiculous in what it pays people who take on so much.
