Trying to change schedule....

I've been with my store since it opened last year in October. And since then, just like a lot of new openings, people left or were fired right off the bat... And the whole time I'd had open availibilty...

Recently, a lot of people changed their schedule... And I've gone from being open to any and all times ( having opened, closed, and scheduled in the middle of the day...) to now... I just close. That's all I do. Which in and of itself isn't fair. For a while, the refused to hire more people. Despite everyone practically begging them to. I believe they recently hired 2? But I do ONLY SCO and they have no intentions of training them or anyone else...

I also heard from another cashier that NO ONE will be getting full time due to some quota thing and thus, no one will be getting insurance...

I've decided, my ass is going to school. I can NOT live as a career cashier and am trying to go to school now. I've already talked to people, and told them I'd let them know once I got a steady schedule. It's also cheaper for me to go to night school, so I was changing my schedule to a morning shift but keeping Friday's and Sundays still opened.

But, not only have I changed my schedule multiple times ( I did so a month in advance many times) they

just wont change it. And not only that, but I went from closing 3 times a week to every single night. And that just isn't fair in my eyes. ESPECIALLY when I found out another cashier actually makes the schedule when our manager isn't doing it and that my schedule would be competing with theirs. ( They too are SCO and they've NEVER worked past 12pm.)

I was told to just keep putting it in every week by the associate in apparel because that's what they did and they got there's and that they've changed multiple times every week but still I'm not getting anywhere...

Is there something I'm missing? I don't mind less hours, but it seems that as soon as they read I wanted a schedule change, I was punished by always closing now. I know we've lost a lot of people but there are plenty others who can close as well. It's not fair to NEVER be able to plan or do anything when I have to work afternoon and night every day. And now I'm not even able to go to school to actually have a decent life.

I mean forget not having a life now with this kind of schedule... It's retail. I expect that. Forget the fact I'll have no insurance. And forget the fact that I'm stuck doing midnights every night. I literally can't go to school because they won't give me decent schedule to do so and that seems totally unfair... I don't even want them paying part of my going to school. I just want to go.

Surely there is something else in missing. I'm never late. Always early. Came in when it snowed when no one else did. But they'll change other cashiers' schedules but not mine because, you know, self check out.

I typically get better results if I talk to the manager that writes the schedules. If that doesn't work, you might try talking to the union steward.

I forgot to note that we are, in fact, not union.

And that they've went through great strides to make sure it stays that way.

I'd talk to whoever writes your schedule. It is up to them. If they don't respond, tell them that you will either work days or quit.

Also talk to your store manager about it. Ask to switch departments. I know that drug GM almost always works in the mornings, so if they need more people, try that.

Ah, not being union does cause issues.

I agree with the above post, try swapping departments. Produce at my store usually also needs more morning people. At least there you won't have to worry about changing out the promo section every two weeks.

I've had multiple issues with my schedule over a five month period.  my immediate supervisor ignores my concerns and just cops an attitude when I continue to protest.  in went to one of the store managers who wanted to help and even went so far as to tell him to correct the issue.  It gets better for a week or so, then goes back to being screwed up again.  I'm told that's there's nothing further that I can do, because the contract isn't technically being violated.  Unconcerned, distant, self-centered managers seem to be the norm for this company.  There may be nothing that you can do, except, get another job more in line with your needs.

Continue to make a stink about it until they figure out that you're serious. Going to school is your best option. If they can't or are unwilling to help you then your only option is to quit and find another job. Your education is much more important than their stupid butts.
