does anyone have a cheat sheet for codes etc. For running self checkout lanes?
There really aren't any codes you have to know except how to enter Maintenance Mode, and how to access the till from the other Robots that you aren't signed into.. a whole 2 codes. The rest is just one of those "Learn as you do" sort of things. You'll learn which weight violations to clear, which ones to check on and so forth. It's really not hard at all. 90% of it is just doing what you did as a cashier, except through a handheld device, and only when customers need help. It's probably one of the easiest jobs you'll do in the store IMO.

Self check out is not an easy job. Essentially you are supervising up to 8 untrained cashiers.
yes it is really rough when in one corner you have somebody who probably should have went through a regular register with their 400.00 order fussing bc the "machine wont work". then in another corner a hipster making passive aggressive jokes is impatient to get his under 21 id checked by management. in the other corner of hell you have you have the soccer mom wanting to use 15 damn coupons for **** that does not match. and then in the middle there you have some older than dirt lady that wants you to hand ring her 40 different varieties of cat food. All of this happening at the same time and all of the customers over there act like they are the only person in the damn grocery store. and their ignorance gets taken out on the attendant. so yeah it is rough and you have to have a tremendous amount of patience to not backhand the **** out of every one of them!

8? Our store has 12 Robots. Even still, I don't see what the big issue is. I've been doing it for months without issue so far. It's probably the easiest job I've had since I got hired at the store. Literally just a lot of standing around talking to people for 8 hours while occasionally helping someone when needed.
uscan can be really hectic, and it can also be very slow and boring. try to stay busy when there are not customers, cleaning, moving go backs and trash, refilling supplies... just so you stay busy. uscan shifts tend to go by slower than any other most days for me...
to your question: of you have some experience cashiering, you should pretty much be good. know that before you start an order, you or the customer have to press start on their screen. (like if they're buying only ice and ask you to ring them up for it). if you don't it will **** up
and of course know how to take control of a lane ( green "space bar" at podium)
and (this is something I did not consider til this year after having worked uscan for 5 years) if someone has a produce item on the scale and it beeps at you for item not found or nonbarcoded item or w/e, so long as they have the item on the scale still, you can simply take control and type in the code for them, and it will weigh it... much easier than clearing it out, telling the customer the PLU, and having them put it in. that's all I can think of. there aren't really any codes unique to uscan... you do need to know how to unlock the monitor and handheld if you go without a customer for 10 min or w/e the timeout time is... at my store the P/W is 01 for the handheld then for the monitor you turn the key then turn it back... good luck. I hope you don't get 8 hour shifts of only uscan. it can be fun, but it gets so boring sometimes.
