How to file a grievance?

A bagger below me is getting 40 hours/week when she's only considered part-time. She's the ONLY one on the whole front end getting that many hours. So, I talked to someone at work about this and they told me that my best bet would be to file a grievance. How do I go about filing one?

Get in touch with your union rep and they should be able to give you the necessary paperwork to allow you to start the process.

If you're on decent terms with the schedule writer you could try talking to them, but be aware that If you have any kind of restrictions on your schedule then you're not, actually, guaranteed more hours than those below you.

if she's the only getting it most likely she is OPEN availability. There's only two people on our front end (that isn't full time) that have open availability. I usually get 30++ because of it. If you have any hours restricted you are not going to get as much as them.

Have you tried claiming some of her shifts?

She has the same shift of 7-3:30 Monday-Friday. She gets weekends off.

I have open availability. I've had open availability since I started there last year.

Then swap schedules with her. As long as they can do your schedule then there shouldn't be a problem.

Take the whole thing! That will show them that you will not be pushed around.

Under my contract you could claim her whole weeks schedule.  Check with your union steward.  Yes, you should file a grievance.  If more people would learn their contract and file grievances things might start changing.  Your union works for YOU.  YOU pay them.
