How ridiculous is a ten-hour shift?

I've been scheduled a 10 hour shift this week and I'm wondering what, if anything, I should do about it. I already had to reduce my availability and call my manager to get less hours so I can go to college, so I don't want to come off as whiny to my manager, but I feel as if I'm being exploited by being expected to work so long. Any advice?

They'll just tell you to suck it up for the needs of the business.

If it happens again though, hound the **** out of your manager. But honestly, your education is more important.

A 10 hour shift isn't that hard. It's really just 9 hours considering you get an hour lunch. And then subtract another 30 minutes for paid breaks. So really it's an 8 and a half hour shift of actual work.

It's not hard... it's just draining. You'll probably be super tired after it. I worked a 12 hour shift at a restaurant once. NEVER. AGAIN.

I'd never make a good coal miner.
