The UFCW and Kroger

I've way more than read enough on here to know what I think of this so-called union...........part-to-NO-TIME-hours, fking minimum wage, open availability demands, virtually no protection from management abuse, memebership dues gouging, etc., etc. I'll say it again: I am FOR UNIONS. But I will always be against corruption.

So when you're reading this, I'd like you to pause, reflect, and take a good, unbiased, sober look at what ever it is you think you're really benefitting from staying with this slave plantation. It may seem impossible to believe, but you really DO have other options to improve your life.

It's no wonder there's problems with the union.  How many posts do we read on here from employees asking questions that they could answer themselves if they only knew their contract.  I think every employee should demand a copy of the contract, read it and learn it, and from now on if Kroger doesn't comply with the contract then we should file a grievance at once.  Let the union earn their pay.  The union works for us.  We pay them.  Make them do their job.  How will anything change if all you do is come on here and gripe.

At least in our union, if you want to file a grievance you send it in writing to your union business agent, a copy to the store manager, and a copy to the District Manager.  They in turn have to answer to it or it goes up to the next level.  Let them do their job.  I bet everyone of you could file a grievance about something this week.  In fact, I think you should.

Schedule wrong?  File a grievance.

Scheduled outside of your availability?  File a grievance.

Vacation taken away after approved?  File a grievance.

Made to do work not in you job classification? File a grievance.

Know your contract!  Then make Kroger honor that contract.  We deserve it, we pay for it!!!

You mean filing a grievance through their bureaucratic red tape that's deliberately designed to be as slow as possible to discourage union members from even filing a grievance? The local union here does not stipulate a timeframe when it comes to answering a grievance, with the only requirement being that management needs to "respond" to the file. Nope, no "respond within 48 hours" or anything.

There's no point in "knowing" a contract when the contract is flawed and drafted to only benefit the union and the corporate.

Glad I never had my paycheck garnished for union fees. The fact that my local city government can enforce their own work regulations better than corporate and union is mind-boggling.

working for the ufcw is great you get weekends and holidays off you get great health care and you get paid pretty good.... I have seen meat managers who make over 60 grand a year leave and go work for the UFCW. pretty amazing if you ask me.

Well the point is they will be flooded with paperwork.  Everyone can find a reason to file a grievance, Kroger isn't very good at following the contract.  File it, call about it, keep up with it.  Bug the crap out of them until they all listen!

I've have a couple of friends who worked hourly for Kroger, many years ago. One is since retired and came away making some where near that 60 K mark; the other was pulling down 80-plus hour weeks max, 50-plus minimum. These guys raised their families, bought homes and took cross country vacations because of the UFCW and Kroger. There was a time that if you didn't want college or the military, and weren't qualified for factories, Kroger was your answer. It used to be amazing....

And now we have this.

just think if the UFCW pay rate was tied into the pay rate that their members get things would not be like this for some reason I think there would be better contracts

This is so true. It's all about the Benjamins these days.

The union does very little to actually help their employees.
I went through this myself when my Front End Supervisor clashed with me.
I got little support or advice from my union representative.

It's sad to say but Kroger and UFCW are closer than you would think they should be when it comes to the well-being of employees.

its because most union reps and and other people who work for the union are all ex employees of these companies and they go way back with most of the store managers and district managers and so on so really its all a game. its all a joke and it has been for at least 20 + years now.
