Really, Kroger? You pay the bare minimum then you hit us up for United Way. I am not against United Way or any other charity, and there are certainly people less fortunate than me, but not many! I guess I should stop throwing my money away on luxury items like food and gas.
It's not just United Way. Kroger also pushes its associates, who apparently have money to burn, to buy hunger bags, school supply kits, Shamrocks and other stuff when fundraisers come up to raise money to combat diseases/help hospitals like Cook's. I'm also not against charities and my family gives to our church and some select charities like St. Jude, but what I am against is management repeatedly pushing us for donations just so they can make their district bosses look good by meeting some sort of quota (I wonder how many of these management level/corporate level people even care about the charities/fundraisers and how many do it for simple publicity purposes in order to look generous in the eyes of the public in the hopes the public will be impressed and shop at Kroger more...). If a person wants to give to a particular cause/is able to give, he/or she will without having to be badgered/pressured/made to feel like a despicable human being if he/she hasn't given yet. If Kroger paid its associates better so that they could more easily pay bills/expenses and valued its associates more, then a lot more associates would donate and donate in bigger ways, but when Kroger insists on starting its associates at a rate that's only slightly better than minimum wage and offers pitiful raises while offering hours that can fluctuate week by week, it makes the associates less able to or not care to donate.

When no one wants to donate their hard earned chicken scratch change to donations, our old manager at least, made it VERY DIFFICULT to work there. Our new manager leaves it up to us. If we choose to donate then fine. If not, oh well.
